So I know I probably don't have the right bike for this trip. If anyone has been on a long ride with your Strada what distance have you gone? Average speed, top speed, and total distance please. I am planning on a ride this summer with some friends. It will be a lot of twisty roads and some pretty long stretches of long highway. Looking at about 950 miles round trip. I am a little worried about a single cylinder and how she will do on such a long ride. Thanks in advance for the input.

Well looking at 400 on the first day to get where we are going. Ride around the area and up into canada for about 150 miles spread out through 3 days then the 400 back home. I just want to be sure it can handle it

I have personally done 400miles in a day on my terra, the bike will be fine. comfort wise the bike is not too bad.

I have read posts here and on ADVrider of people doing long rides on their TR650, further than 400 miles, without any issues. The main issues will be, do you have the ride fitness to ride that far, and can you physically sit on that bike for that long in a day. Ignaciob is the resident long distance king here, and he might have an opinion on the matter. I suspect he's already done at least that distance in a day on his Strada. I think the bike is well capable of dealing with that distance. My only suggestion would be if you were going to be running at high revs in high temps all day it might be worth adding a little valvesaver or other upper cylinder lubricant in the fuel, although whether that would be necessary with the watercooling is another matter.

It will be tougher on you than the Strada unless you plan on running 80mph the whole time.
Your age has a lot to do with it to. When I was in my 30's I did a 950 mi 2 day on a 1987 Harley Sportster with no problems or wind protection.
In 2009 I did a 350 day on my 2007 Triumph Tiger 1050 and was butt tired!!

    YMMV

I did 1800+ mile trip last summer in 4 days, the bike was a champ. Check fluids before you go, stop, stretch, and hydrate when you need it. Have fun on your trip!

Don't worry about the bike, for most folks distance is governed by your stamina not the bikes.

I live where riding kind of sucks, but 400 miles away is motorcycle heaven.
One of the pluses of the TR's, in my opinion, is how smooth they are and how well they eat miles.
A windscreen that works for you helps too.

I have done 400 mile, covering ground days on my Terra, followed by 200+ mile days then the run back. Around 1300 miles over 4 days.
Mix of rural roads and highway, speeds between 65-85, but mostly around 70 when covering ground.
The bike handles it quite well, but it does get thirstier when you push it towards 85.
I felt it did this duty almost as well as the Versys and 650 Strom I have owned, the seat being the biggest issue on the TR.
It was better than the KLR's, KTM640's and BMW X-Challenge I have owned, all of which wore me out on the same runs.

My TR does not use oil when running at speed like the KLR's I have owned.
Even my Strom used a bit of oil when run 70+ all day.

No problems with my bike when last fall I rode 500 miles in 1 day to Bend OR (nice weather up), then a few days later rode back in 1 day (snow/rain/ice/big wind = not fun).

I was quite glad I was wearing padded bike shorts, and would go back to stock gearing if I did it again, as opposed to the 1 tooth smaller counter sprocket I've got on the bike now.

Full disclosure: I have the Terra not the Strada.

I did 500+ miles last weekend on my Terra, mostly SW Wisconsin. Lots of flat, fast, windy highway to get to the "Good Stuff" from my house. Some kind of throttle lock helps immensely! I'm 50, out of shape, 1st 'big' ride of the season. No issues with me, nor bike.

I think the most I've done in one day is about 600 miles in Strada mode during the Big Money Rally. The bike wasn't close to the limiting factor.....it happily chugs away all day with 16 tooth front gear at freeway +10 speeds, urban crawls, and in between. I was off and on it dozens of times with the engine idling, fan kicking on occasionally, and just a hoot to ride. The stock seat is pretty good IMO and not worthy of a many hundred $$$ replacement.

You're going to want to carry chain lube and a way to lift up the rear wheel for 500 mile doses of chain goo.

That all said the bike isn't a cacoon like my FJR and big windshield is. Even with a fair sized Spitfire windshield wind fatigue would be the reason I wouldn't want to do 1000+ mile days. And if I'm in Terra mode with knobbier tires.....it's more vibey.

But 950 mile round trip over a long weekend would be cake.

I'm planning a 3100 mile 10 days trip on and off-road in July and have no doubts about the bike at all. Just going to make sure I have fresh rubber, fresh oil, and tools for minor issues including flats.

And to put things in a little perspective. Motorcycles are RARELY the limiting factor these days. If folks like Ed Otto can blast around North America on a 250 Honda Helix scooter and FINISH 22nd place doing 11,442 miles, numerous other riders finishing it on F650GS bikes, and even one smaller bike (a 1973 125cc Zundap 2 stroke)....I'm pretty sure the TR650 is well up to the task. ;)

I put in 1200 miles over 3 days. Mostly 2 lane highway, some gravel. Loaded with camping gear. I kept it in the 55-70 range for most of it. This was down through Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and coming up through Missouri. A full 400+ miles of twisties on the second day while I was in Arkansas. That long on twisties and things get sore. But the Strada seemed to keep up fine compared to the other bikes I saw down there. On the last day I got a voicemail from my dealer that my radiator was in for my 300, so I kinda cranked it open and did a 300 mile stretch of 80-85mph to the dealer, so I could get my bike back together and make the hare scramble on the next day. That long stretch at those RPMs had me a bit uneasy and it was a lot more stressful to put in those miles, but the bike didn't seem to care.

You might be in the seat longer, but 55-65mph is about perfect as the vibrations and wind don't fatigue nearly as much at that speed.

I'll be attempting a 17 day 5000 mile trip in August/September (CDR) on mine, and I have zero worries about the bike.

Main thing is do your prep work, and have a hydration pack. Especially in the summer, that dehydration can hit in quick and you want to keep drinking the entire time as you'll be sweating in the sun. Also, I have some hybrid pants I like to wear, part codura, part leather, and the seat is leather, so that makes a big difference...as does not having your pants flapping around.

    Ear plugs too.

I recently got back from a ride to Arkansas. 500 miles there in 2 days, rode around on back roads for a couple of days, then 500 miles home in 1 day. I have a 15 tooth counter sprocket and ran 65-75 on the good roads. Didn't go over 5k rpm and it didn't use any oil or have any problems at all. An Airhawk seat cushion made a huge difference, otherwise my Terra is pretty much stock. I'd do that trip every week without any concerns for the bike although a 16 tooth would have been a better choice for that particular ride.

Cut some slack to the baggers.. haha.

I rode my HD bagger with a buddy of mine in the middle of the night on a Wednesday from Keywest in March of 2011, a week after Daytona Bike week was over to my Brothers house in Coral Springs (Fort Lauderdale area). We got some rest and left early the next morning on Thursday, we went south through Miami and crossed Florida heading west on Aligator Alley, Then rode north on Hwy70 or is it 75, I can't remember. We rode all the way to Mobile Alabama the first day. Got up the next morning, Friday and rode the shortest of the 3 days all the way to San Antonio Texas. Got some rest in San Antonio and rode straight from San Antonio to Southeast Arizona (Douglas) in one day. I was home on Saturday evening. That was less than 3 1/2 days from Key West to Southeast AZ. We stopped every 125 to 150 miles for gas and a Redbull, some Jerky or other snacks and got back on the road again.

Yes I have a Corbin seat and I ride a 2010 Harley FLTRX Roadglide with Cruise control.was carrying plenty of luggage as well. Cruise control was set at about 92 mph across most of Texas where its an 85mph speedlimit. I was so tired after I got back I took an extra week off from work just to get some rest. LOL
