My Strada has been running pretty rough the last few weeks. It has cut out on me a few times as well, which has never happened before. I know these bikes knock pretty good and that is normal but something about this just doesn't feel right. On top of that, it has developed a whine that makes me wonder if the timing is off. It only has about 2k miles so it seems like a valve adjustment already would be a little premature. Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks
Has it been excessively hot where you are? If so, it might be the check valve on the gas cap not venting that could account for cutting out. Warning lights on the dash? Fuel good? Did the bike sit for a long period with the fuel not purged? Loose wiring? Plug wires checked?
Don't assume the valves clearances are within spec. Mine were out of spec at only 800 miles and measured the same at 6600 miles, so my bike was out of spec from the factory. That said, I do not think valve clearances would be your issue and agree with Charlie on checking the fuel check valve and other suggestions. Could pull the spark plugs to see what they look like as well.
is the whine from gearbox or engine?...does it do it in neutral or while riding and or have you just added a bash plate? My bash plate (Touratech) accentuates the gearbox sound, which is a whine.
