    Hello,
I recently took my TE450...all stock...out for a street cruise. I was doing 50-60 mph for some of the straights. I think the rpm's were around 5,000 - 5,500. What is safe to ride at for extended periods on these bikes? i have a buddy coming in from Washington and he wants to cruise to Big Bear, beach and Julian in So-Cal. I'll let him ride my street bike and I figured I'd ride the TE. I just do not want to blow it up. Thoughts?

I have the equivalent of your gearing on my TE 250 and am OK with 50-55 and the rpms.

Not a big deal to me. The engine is made more for racing but will be OK with the occasional street trips.

Racing these in Baja, my dealer said they are on the rev limiter for extended periods of time when the occasion permits...12,000 +

I was not happy w/the stock gearing on the road. Especially on the way down the hill from Big Bear. I just didn't like running around the 5500+RPM mark for long periods. And if I needed to pass someone etc. So I bumped the front sprocket to a 15 a have been very happy w/both on road and off road now. I mostly ride fire breaks so I really didn't need low gearing.

    Just a thought for you...
