The 86 510 has a Dellorto on it but it's worn and contributing to difficult starting and poor idling. Who has upgraded their carb on an air cooled 510? The Keihen FCr is a bit much for my wallet.

Go with a new Dellorto - but buy one with a hot start.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Do you use accel pumps or no? Pumper Dellorto carbs for my Moto Guzzi are similar to Mikunis in price. Would you have a jetting kit for the Dellorto?

A button on the carb that lifts the slide a little to aid starting when the bike is warm.

I cleaned the Dellorto carb again and got a fuel mixture screw. Set the valves and tried to start it. 5 kicks w/the choke and decompress on, choke off, kick, nothing. kicked several times and, still nothing. check the plug-wet. Cleaned the cylinder out and the spark plug. Kicked it a few more times and she burst into life! The idle adjustment has no affect(?). Guess the slide is worn. Changing the fuel mixture had no affect. Got outside started her up easily again and took it for a little ride. Snow on the ground, very slippery but when I hit solid pavement what a hoot!! Very pleased with the power, clutch doesn't slip didn't stall it. Not bad for a $550 bike. New cam chain, reed valve and rubber parts from Andy at HVA.
Sudco sells a jetted Mikuni TM for $250. One with a hot start is $360. Couldn't find a Dellorto with a hot start-regular PHM's run $300 plus shipping from Germany. Leaning towards the TM and maiking a hot start button. Can't wait to get this out and flog it a little!

Just found a Keihin 39mmFCR off a Suzuki RMZ 450 for $200. Has a hot start button and accell pump complete with throttle cables and throttle grip! Jetting should be close.

I have a pumper carb (off a sport bike) Halls built for a newer 510 I'd sell for a couple hundred dollars. Supposed to work great but I never installed it. Would think it would really wake that bike up. I can get you details and measurements if you have any interest.

I would have been very interested but the FCR has been purchased. Appreciate the offer. Even with a worn out carb she's got balls!
