Just picked up an 08 sm510r....I can't believe I can ride this bike legally on the street! I'm getting it set up for the track and was looking for info on handguards. I'm diggin' the acerbis guards, but they say that on the 08 Huskys you have to shorten the levers, and drill the bars? Any input on the Cycra ones as well would be appreciated. Thoughts on fit, finish, and ease of installation. Also, who the heck makes the stock bars on the 08 Husky's anyway?
I believe the stock bars are Tomeselli. Personally I'm a big fan of HDB handguards. They'll protect your hands, levers and switches and the flipout mirrors actually work. Look around the site and and you'll find a few write ups on them.
I've been a fan of the Cycra's for a long time. I used G2 threaded inserts this time around in the Flexxbars my TXC which I feel is a big improvement over the wedge anchors. I swapped out the stock 7/8" risers/bar clamps on my '06 510 for Renthal ones, which then enabled me to use Fatbars and Bonz mounts top clamps. VERY solid way to go. I always chop the levers on my bikes anyway, so.....
