Well went on my first real ride with my new husky.. I put Close to 300 miles by now. all I did with the suspension is raised the front forks half an inch. I am 175 without gear. What recommendations of settings do you guys use. So far load the bike first gear wherlies are no problem. I would not even think about wheelies in second there's just not enough power. All thats done to it is powerup. When i do wheelie the rear tire chirps. Ill set the rear sag tommorrow about 110mm. What should i set rebound? Is there compression setting? The front rebound is 8 clicks out from the dealer. I dont see compression setting. My other bike is a yammi r1. I had no problems keeping up with liter bikes in the goaty roads. Bigger sweepers i do ok but i expected that. There is so much more potential with this bike. I was lugging it today 5to 6k rpm.. First oil change is tomorrow. I cant wait to have it set properly. It does have more power than a drz 400 sm in stock form imo.. Looks way better to
Buy a JD jetting kit if you want to be able to do your own tuning. Mine will power up in first, no bounce, and second with a bounce. It'll clutch up in second no problem, and 3rd if i bounce it. ETA: I'm right about midrange on all damper settings, i'm going to play with the rear a bit more after taking it aaround an autoX track and getting some wheel hop under brakingin the rear. Just need a slipper clutch really...
I am also getting chirps comming outta some corners. Also under hard accelleration.. Imma try to set sag first and see.. There have to be other people on here roughly my weight that tuned their suspension. First oil change is today.. Yeaaah! Cant wait to really hide it hard. I had my ecu flashed at the dealer.. Would this jd tumer make a huge improvrment?
All the dealer probably did was to bump the fueling in 3 ranges. Make sure the labyrinth piece is out of the airbox, and the JD kit makes a big difference in overall ride smoothness and in throttle response. There are several threads on it here and I love mine.
Shop manual says to set rear compression (fast and slow) all the way out...turned to the left. No compression damping in the front fork. Rebound in rear is spec'd at 26 clicks on a SMS; 12 clicks for front. YMMV
