Taking gas tank off 2009 TE250

I have a leaky rad hose that needs replacement, although it is located in the most difficult place ever, so i need to take the tank off. Previous owner told me he broke some $150 park twice doing so, and i believe i read the same online. How do i take it off without breaking said part? Thanks!
