Started out with a 30 pilot and bike ran decent and would gurgle from low to mid then towards the end of the ride I changed to a 27.5 pilot and had a much cleaner ride and I went out about 1.5 turns on the AS .Rode on a moto / trail course at sea level, just around the corner from where the Pilgrims landed and the suspension was just amazing and also the handling ,did get full travel out of the forks. Like everyone else says the mid to top is eye watering fast,no doubt this is faster than my 14 xc150 and my former 16 200xcw,just needs carb tuning. Will do the yellow spring for next time and see how that works.

TE150*, I think im at a 25 pilot, id order up a couple smaller size jets to see how they perform. Makin me jealous, I actually took mine for a little spin last night to knock some dust off. I shoulda went for a ride when it was 50 degrees on saturday...

30 pilot is gonna be real fat on the bottom if you run woods.

Mine came with 40 PJ and I just changed it out for the 37.5 that came with the bike. What elevation are you guys at? I'm between 500-3000 feet most of the time. PA can't be much different in elevation. Guess I'll have to get some smaller jets on order. I wish the snow would go away so I could get it out and get some testing in. Not being able to ride a new bike is torture.

Where in MA? I'm out west of Springfield, waiting on my 150 to show up. I hope they give me fancy Husky tie downs like those to go along with it lol.

We got 3" of heavy wet "snow" (more like grease) yesterday, figure I won't really ride the new bike till Spring. There's a Steve Hatch Clinic weekend in late April in Stafford CT I'm thinking of bringing the new bike too.

Will follow along to see how you do with jetting so I can copy!

This screen grab from the owners manual says S-1. I did not remove it to verify that when I changed the PJ. The parts in parenthesis are spares that came with the bike.

Guys, if you go from a S1 jet to S4. You are only making things more richer.
While in same token, with the S1 your are going leaner on pilot.
Back in early 2000 days they ran S8-S9's. But their needles are as thick as telephone poles and they went up to 7 slides.
Try this and have in my thread: go up to #5 slide and vent the air box. RB designs can cut your 4 to a 5 for cheap.

Then go back and start re jetting, maybe try 500 main and 40-45 pilot.

Also, the needle is a slow, non fast taper, to an explosive taper hit on mid to top end.

I will test more in spring.

Below is stock needle on left. See the slow taper? Then the explosive one towards the end?

I ran out of time but the best needle is a fast taper that when it gets to full throttle just feeds it fuel.

I was more curious and wasn't gonna try changing . Starting to learn a little more to as why Husky KTM went with Mikuni instead of Kehin , supposedly Kehin wants to get out of the carb business and focus on FI ?

Misinformation... Keihin is pumping out carbs like crazy. Other off road brands still use them and most trials bikes that had Dellorto carbs, just a couple of years ago... all run Keihins now. Mikuni just gave them a better deal.

My thoughts are the mikuni is just as good anyways... Halls never changed them....I've always thought once jetted just fine.....but hey I think a revalved 4cs fork is fine and there's a million pages that say different.... I bet better deal.....just as good a.product...possibly renegotiate and see the other brand back.for.18.....who knows

It's my suspicion that since KTM/Husky is going FI soon, they probably needed a shorter carb contract, and I bet Keihin, being the Big Dog in this fight, said buy big or go away. I bet Mikuni was willing to supply only what they needed.

Finally got out even though conditions were poor. Up high it was packed snow coated with ice but down lower was somewhat better. Trails were blocked with downed limbs and after moving a number of them gave up on that effort. The power lines and two track roads were clear.

Impressions so far? Totally stoked. Hours so far is a bit under 2 hours on it so it's a bit early to start messing with the suspension settings. Even with a 37.5 pilot it seems rich at times at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle and also has a stutter when transitioning to the upper end. I checked the float height and saw 7 mm so I'll move that to 8 mm. I've already drilled the float bowl plug holes. I'm reading the other threads on jetting for further changes.

Very slim and light feeling. It's a bit tallish but the light weight makes it manageable. Suspension feels good for my weight (190 with gear), I don't see the need for spring changes at this point. The seat is hard as a rock.

Jury is still out on the stock tires. It really isn't fair to judge them with the conditions last Saturday.

The motor besides the jetting feels plenty strong for this old man. It will lug if asked but pulls hard through the range and on the top has nice power. Definitely know it's a small bore 2T though. That's OK, just needs to be ridden as such. My buddy on a CRF 250 was not pulling away from me that I could see.

Not sure if it was the conditions but the gearing felt a bit tall and I know I don't need to be going 70+ through the woods around here so I may end up putting a couple more teeth on the back or drop one at the front.

I cut all my bars at 30" but didn't do it when I installed the bark busters. I need to go back and do that. I have Pivot Pegz on my DRZ and really like them, I may have to try a pair on this bike.

The only downside so far is the magic button quit working. I'm familiar with the couple stabs routine to get the battery up and going and I can hear and feel the relay is working correctly so I'll get the VOM out and do a bit of measuring. Hopefully it's just a loose wire or something, if not I still have a couple months left on the warranty. Anybody had the same problem and what was your fix?

I raced a KDX in the woods in the mid-late 80's and this bike is exactly what I was looking for. I've been wrestling my DRZ through the woods for the last ten years and I can already tell I'm going to be in the woods a lot more this year and the ones coming thanks to this flying carpet.

Pic is looking SW from the road at "back to back" in the Tillamook State Forest in OR.

I reaaaaally didn't like the AT81. Touch a single rock and it's game over. I switched to a Kenda Equilibrium and am not looking back. Softer tires make this thing a treat in the thicker woods.
