TE/TC TE 250 Gearing

I was wondering if anyone has played with their gearing on the 250. Maybe its just because I am coming off riding YZ 250fs for years but the trans on the TE seems really wide and I was hoping to tighten it up a bit.

Stock gearing is 14/50 on these, so I was wondering if anyone had any comments about running a 51 or 52 rear. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Stock they seem a little lazy and the gaps in the tranny feel wide.Once I changed heads it gave it more grunt and it pulls the stock gearing just fine .They do have a wide ratio tranny with a granny low first that is just about to low already .

Troffer, I agree, they definitely feel lazy. What head did you end up going with? My brother has a KTM 250XC which I really like in the way it delivers the power, so I've definitely been considering throwing the XC head and ignition on in the off season.

I was just hoping that maybe a gearing change could get me through the rest of this season. Any other opinions?

I put the S3 head on with the highest compression insert. It was $275.00 and if you change your rear sprocket you will have to buy a new chain, that puts you about half way there anyway. The stock jetting is fluffy too so you could start there if you haven't already.

I believe stock gearing on US spec Husky TE250's (and all KTM and Husabergs) is 13/50. It was for my '12 Husaberg TE250. Other markets get 14/30 in street homologated mode, with a 13 to install for competition mode.

I run 13/52, Cycle Playground modded XC head, XC CDI, Red PV spring with 1 turn of preload and a FMF Gnarly pipe. This setup makes the bike super torque monster. First is emergency bailout gear and the gap from second to third is better. The bike can still go 80mph plus in sixth gear.

Norm you are right. For some reason on Motosport they have the Husky being listed as 14/50. I just checked my manual and 13/50 is the US stock gearing.

I definitely think I am going to have to go the XC head and cdi route sooner rather than later. Thanks for all the input guys.

You need to run 12/50 or 12/51 on the 250, livens things up no end. It'll still pull over 70mph flat out if the need arises, great in the tight stuff as little clutch slip it required.
