    Hi All,

I'm doing the first oil change on my '09 TE250. I can't seem to get the oil screen indicated as number "7" in the owners manual out of the engine case. Please let me know if there any tricks for removing this filter screen. The other two (5 and 6) came out easily.

I'm changing the oil at 50 miles per the instructions from the dealer and what I've found on the web. Everything looks good. Just the expected fine debris in the oil filter and a particle or two in the filter screens I was able to remove.

If you are referring to the screen of small diameter behind a single allen head in the front on the left side - I use the longer bolts from the oil filter cover. Insert, twist slightly, pull gently.

I'll have to try that trick with the bolt on my next oil change. It occurred to me that the O-ring may be holding it in place so I used a dental too to remove the O-ring and the filter came out easily after that.

You can also stick needle nose pliers into the hole, and instead of squeezing, pull the handles apart. Screen should come right out.

Be careful reinserting otherwise you can crimp/compress the mesh. Make sure it is seated properly before reattaching the end cap.

I just pulled mine to clean it and had about 1/4qt of oil come out of the hole after draining the motor with the main drain plug. Whats the point of having 2 pre screens before the paper filter? I will pull the bolt to drain remaining oil with every oil change now.

Dunno... I believe some people don't even remove the main drain plug.

You mean like me? :busted: I just pull the 2 side plugs and lean the bike to the left. Pick it up again, rock it back and forth a few times, and lean her over again. I only bother pulling the main drain plug every now and then to check for metal pieces.

My bike had all sorts of things come out in it's first oil change, especially orange gasket sealant.

Is it your first oil change?

i used a tool that i had that is normaly used to pull the small springs off of rear drum brakes. its a small screw driver looking tool but has a hook at the end that goes to a point! it works perfect!

I do the same thing but check for metal pieces by sticking my finger in the back screen and feeling around.

09, was it your first oil change or the bike's first oil change? Meaning, did you get it new from a dealer or used?
