  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449 and 511 Fuel Filter

I have to admit, I thought the "condom" style filter that KTM was sending out with their bikes seemed like a stupid idea. A few weeks ago, we popped out of the woods in a rural Arkansas town and filled up at a station that looked as if time had stood still for 50 years. Needless to say, all the EFI bikes had issues shortly after except for the few bikes that had the "condoms". When I got home I tore the tank off and after draining the fuel found a ton of sand/sediment that came from that rural pump. We ride in really rural areas a bunch and depend on on-the-go gas.

I did a little research, and wound up linked up with a cool Australian guy. I was pleased to see that he was willing to produce a version spec'd for our somewhat unique bikes. I thought I would hold off until I had a chance to test it out and I have to say this is a very solid solution. Simple, inexpensive, and quite well-made.

There may be several more out there (I didn't see any) but I love helping out a small operation that cares about the product. One "pro" of the Profill is that the filling speed was definitely better than the OEM version I have seen on other brands. Most of them could not be filled on a typical station pump as they drained too slowly. Profill seems to have found a balance on adequate filtering and draining.

Time will tell how it holds up. With a single injector, questionable fillups, and a tank cap that sees everything my rear wheel does - this is a MUST have!

We tested these and ended up scrapping them. The 449 and 511 is unique in that it's pump tank is seperate from the main tank. You can place a 12 micron filter in between the two tanks and eliminate the headache. The filter is widely available and sells for $5. Same exact filter that Speedbrain used when racing Dakar.
