  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 Header pipe glowing red hot on warm up?

SDPUTTER

Question: Is it normal for the header pipe to glow bright red hot after idling for a minute after cold start-up?

Background: Bought this 2011 new a couple of weeks ago. Has 140 miles on it now. This is only my 2nd 4-stroke (only owned 2-smokers, besides the Raptor 700 that I own which has been flawless for 4 years), So I'm pretty clueless. I have the loop wire plugged in (Went to race map II with the stock muffler). And I only noticed the header glowing last night (when it was kind of dark in the garage) when I slipped-on a FMF Powercore 4 muffler. I took the FMF off and put the stock muffler back on and same thing. This bike has always warmed up really quickly (top of Radiators barely touchable) after a minute or so and I'm thinking the header has always glowed hot since new. Only have one 70 mile ride which seemed fine. Is this normal? Thanks for any input.

BTW: I've come to find out the dealer doesn't know that much about this bike compared to what is on this website. You guys are great!

I pretty sure its normal mate, I hear alot of bikes do it when its left to idle!
Get the dealer to check the valve clearence, might need a shim up.

It's totally normal ! My 2012 does the same as well as all of my 4 t bikes, I can light a cigaret off mine...... As you ride the red will go away as the wind blows on it..... Burg, DRZ , CRF , KTM they all do it
