Hi all, I've just had Race map 3 put in my 2013 TE511 from a shop in Victoria (Australia).

I took the bike for a ride today and didn't really notice much difference. Still had a stalling problem hopping over logs, and not sure I can say its running any stronger.

I did notice that sitting at between 80-100Kph the bike seems to surge a little, it also seem to have a little bit of a crack through the exhaust, I guess a little bit of a back fire/pop on over run.
Although both of these things might have been present before and I'm just paying more attention now????

Bike is really stock, with only the Race Map 2 jumper in place and Akrapovic muffler and about 1300K's done.

Is there anyway for me to check exactly what Map set is on the bike? And should I be worried about the surging, maybe lean or rich at this time?

I also have another problem where sometime when getting on the throttle the bike doesn't respond, after rolling off the throttle and back on everything is fine again. I was hoping the ECU reflash was going to fix this, but it hasn't..

    Thanks.

Sad to hear. If you are near the dealer, I'd go back & ask them to recheck that the upload 'stuck', as in took the upload.

Your bike may as you say , have other problems, they have a few.
Loose clamps at the rubber air-horn to throttle body connection, throttle position sensors not set correctly which can be reset, idle air-bypass screw not set correctly etc. A good dealer should check all these for you as a start.
Read through some of the posts for common TE449/511 stuff.

Just don't go into the shop being too knowledgeable, they may be a bit put off by 'internet fixes'.
Some bikes don't respond to the above stuff & it's common to fit a piggyback fuel controller as the mapping can't be adjusted away from what Husky/BMW load in.

I've been fiddling with the standard EFI on my own '11 model as a challenge with some success.

I hated the fact that, even after race map 3 my bike wouldn't run that well. I got a PCV and that took care of it. It seems to be the best option for non-mechanics to solve the running problems.

Thanks gents. The dealer is a 7 hour round trip away. Not the easiest place to get to for a quick check up...

I did ask about the TPS reset when I was there, and I was told reflashing the ECU would do the TPS reset at the same time.. Regardless, I might run thorough the process myself.
Thanks for the other tip re loose clamps, I'll give these the once over..

PCV might be the best option, but I was trying to avoid going down that road.

Is there any diagnostic port and ebay style reader we can use to check what the ECU is doing??

I would def do a TPS reset - sure won't hurt. Also add a 1/4 turn to your air screw. I do question that the flash took as the difference was night and day on my bike even with the OEM pipe (we don't get the Akro here is the US).

Instead of driving 14+ hours, may be easier to mail it off to a known reputable shop to verify the flash was performed correctly.

I have all of the exact same issues after sending mine to get flashed with #3, except for the dead throttle. Never had a dead throttle even with the stock map. The surging, that I can only assume is lean surging, is really noticeable while cruising on the street. The pop on deceleration is ridiculously noticeable with the FMF pipe. Again, is it lean or do I have an exhaust leak. And the occasional die as I step up or try to get over a log. The bike did run a little better after I wrapped the header and mid-pipe with Titanium wrap. It also seem VERY picky about gas. Try adding octane booster. And it also seems very picky about the air filter. It runs best with a very clean filter with bare minimum filter oil (I have a UNI filter).

I hate to say it, but it sounds like you got a Monday morning bike... Noone should have to have all of these band-aids.

Are you 100% sure you have the TPS reset correctly? I thought I was doing mine correctly (I tried both DIY techniques) but mine was out of spec when the dealer performed a tool initiated reset. I had all those little fuel air gremlins too and they vanished instantly. I have the FMF PC4 with the new small insert and have zero lean deaccel at any elevation or throttle position. I have run everything from 93 to 85 octane with zero issues (85 at elevation). I run disposable air filters - no issues there either.

As for gas, remember that I'm in Cali, and can only get the 15% garbage.

I've done the DIY TPS resets. Both the disconnection of the battery. And the full DIY reset (mine is a 13 and hence, no key, so the jury is still out on whether it is even possible to DIY). However, after the last full TPS reset, it does seem to be running a little better.

It is quickly becoming my belief, however, that Map #3 is not suitable to the TE 511. The people who have the best success with it seem to mostly be on TE 449s. The OP and myself both have 511s, whereas yours is a 449. One exception would be Kelly's threads about Map #3 on his bike. Pretty sure its a 511. But, he's still running the JD Tuner even after having it flashed with #3. I just picked up a used JD Tuner and am in the process of installing it. But I'm also watching the Butterfly Valve Removal thread with great anticipation of some real world results.

I do see more 449s running better than 511s. Which is odd as the 511s are like 476s right???

I do know my dealer's personal ride is a 2013 TE511 with exact same setup as me - FMF (w quiet insert), BMW map set 3...and that's pretty much it. His runs exceptionally well (I put a 12 mille loop on it).

I don't want to be a debbie downer, but I followed both TPS resets (mine's keyless too) and they said "...your TPS was way out of spec. Based on that, either some 13's cannot be DIY reset or I'm an idiot - either is possible!

BTW we only have E10 here so not too much difference on the fuel.

Before you go crazy or buy more gadgets, get the dealer to check the flash and then instigate an additional TPS reset. That will be time well spent.

In order to load Map3, the dealer must remove the power up plug. Make sure that it has been reinstalled after the upgrade. Without a doubt, the powercommander is really the best way to solve fueling issues on this engine. You may have a throttle position sensor problem which is best checked by your dealer. IMO, the JD tuner is a bad investment.

In order to check for the 3rd mapset, the HST must be connected.

The thing is, I got my JD used for $120.
The PCV is $430 for the base unit. With the Auto Tune, it's another $270.

I don't have $700 more to spend on this bike.

You have to call them. Many people with 449's on CafeHusky have purchased from them.

    Thanks again for the reply's..

I always running 98 octane, so I think the fuel quality is ok.

I've called around and apparently no one in Australia will do mail in Map re-flashes, they all say they need the bike.. I should have sent it off to Zipty over summer when I wasn't riding the bike..

I believe the Power Up plug is in - RACE MAP II is on the dash.

Where do they connect the HST? I only caught a couple of quick glances of the bike been worked on and I don't believe I saw the seat off..
If they didn't disconnect the Power Up plug, is it worth me removing it, running the bike, and then reinstalling it?

Thanks Tinken, spoke with R&D, they also said they need the bike. They are about a 14 hour round trip for me..

On a side note, any thoughts on selling Zipty products through R&D for us Aussie Husky riders?

A bit of a pain that the dealer is so far away, but sounds like you may be visiting them again!
Just a note, looking in the parts cat., the Aussie bikes come with the same ECUs as Europe, so our standard maps might be better than the US road legal stuff, but they still seem to give trouble.
Sounds a bit like it hasn't taken the map, as advised in the other posts.
I doubt the TPS would reset just uploading the map, I have no experience with the HST, but all other readers i've used for efi systems have separate menus to navigate to for things like that, it isn't something you do every day ........ unless you have a 449/511 :D
The data port is under the seat, near the ECU, but there isn't a generic hand-reader that talks to this model that I can find :(

I also have another idea (borrowed from another model) to add to my own bike in regard to the lean maps, if I make it work, I'll post it up.
I've set my self the challenge of making it run the best I can using the basic factory hardware & cheap mods, just to see what can be achieved.
Easy path option, fit a PCV and tune away, proven results & costs.
