2011 TE 630, 730 miles It's been in storage and not running for 7 years. The gas was not drained so it sat 7 years with 5 quarts of gas in the tank. It used to run like new, now it doesn't start. I pulled the spark plug and it looks fine. Installed new battery, drained old gas, and added new gas. It turns over but doesn't start. When I spray starting fluid into the airbox it starts and runs for 2-3 seconds, then stops. I'm guessing the fuel pump is bad? Is that the next thing to check? And if so, how do I test it? I'm trying to disconnect the gas line at the fuel pump/tank to see if it pumps gas, but I don't see how to disconnect it. The manual says, "push down the ring". Does that mean push the white ring that's inside the black connector?

I finally managed to disconnect the fuel line at the throttle body end. It was hard to squeeze the 2 tabs -- maybe my fingers are too big -- so I modified a pair of plyers by taping a small twig to each jaw and used that to squeeze the 2 tabs. It worked perfectly. So now, when the key is turned on, the relay clicks and gas drips out of the fuel line but very slowly, about 1 drop per second. I'm assuming it should be under pressure?
You should be able to hear the pump whirrr. Should be gas squirting everywhere when turning key on with line disconnected. Sounds like pump is stuck. Try momentarily cycling the key multiple times to free it up. If that don't work it will have to come out for repair or replacement. Suitable aftermarket replacements are available and info for ordering is here on CH.
I got my bike fixed recently. It ran but I knew it had a problem. Looked inside tank when bike was running and you could see evidence of a leak….bubbles. Filter housing was cracked and leaking. So you should see evidence of pressure…drips not so good.
Still getting psyched up to remove/inspect the fuel pump. If it turns out it needs a new fuel pump, should I get Quantum for $90 or Ca Cycleworks for $144? Is Ca Cycleworks significantly better? https://www.ebay.co.uk/fuelpump i dont understand why anyone would spend so much more for a simple pump Have you seen the working parts inside these pumps? I cut the failed pump open to see why it failed, just looks like wear. View attachment 104149 View attachment 104150 View attachment 104151 View attachment 104152
When you disconnect the fuel line at the throttle body fuel will not come out, it is a dry break connection. .
Fuel pump.. mine was sitting for ages too. BTW the Purflex Ep58 filter seems to fit the TE630 spot on and I just got a all balls pump kit (which comes with incorrect filter).
Unless the fuel pump is running. Twice I didn't fully seat the fuel line and it came loose while riding. Fuel squirting all over until I turned the ignition off.
