Anyone running a conversion kit to take a TE to an SMS? Wondering if one exists and if so how long the swap takes.

    630. Checked out the ad, I don't see how the swap can take 15 minutes unless one is gifted with a pit crew. Also, to change from the TE front rotor to the SM you would need some kind of bracket for the caliper given the different diameters, no?

As long as the front rotor is the same size as the TE rotor and the sprockets were the same size I could do this swap easy in 15 minutes. I plan on getting a extra set of 18/21 wheels for my 630 with street tires mounted for a easy 15 minute swap. I have been down the super moto road setup with my 610. Total waste of $ as I can keep up with most squids on there gixxxer what evers on plain ole knobbys. Most of those kids can't ride anyway.
The SM setup is really not needed on the street for normal riding. Race track different story. I have mounted Avons on the 18/21 rims and they kick total rear end on the street. Just my worthless .02 so no worries right? :)

I agree on the 15 minute swap over. TE630 is the easiest bike I've owned for both front and back wheel removal. 5 minutes grabbing tools and lifting up bike. 5 minutes for rear wheel, 5 minutes for front wheel and done.

    but...
    set of 18/21 wheels
    two tubes
    two tires
    two rotors
    rear sprocket

Wouldn't this add up to as much if not more than the SM set? Can't see how that deal is a waste of $

Agreed, I meant that the need for the 17" wheels is not there for me, (although they look really cool)not that the 18/21 setup is cheaper. Also the gearing would be differant on the 17's so a chain adjustment would be nessesary when doing the swap. I am getting to Lazy the older I get and if something is a pain in the butt I find myself not even wanting to do it. :)

I have a set of 17's for my TE. Only real mod is to drill out the mounting holes on a stock Te front rotor for the sm front hub bolts .10-15mins for the switch over. When pushing hard on the 17's the front brake fades fast ...but its a trade off for the ease of a 15min change over. Lets me run a much more aggresive dirt tire on the 18,21 and not worry about wrecking the tire on black top.

    best of both worlds !

I want the sm tires because of stability on the highway. When I use the bike in commuter mode (which unfortunately is 95% of the time) I run 80 on the highway and the large front wheel gets a little twitchy. I also want the big front rotor because I can fade the front brake with the knobbies on it - once I really have grip I know I will get myself in trouble without the rotor. Someone made a kit for my old WR250R that had a bracket for the front caliper that spaced it out farther for the larger sm rotor.

You can change from the te to sm sprocket using the same chain? There is room to get the wheel off without breaking the chain? That was what I was basing my 15 minute swap doubt on, I figured you would have to open the master link and swap chains as well as rear wheels.

No need to break the chain ...A 150 rear fits through without any troubles . You do need to adjust the chain but one chain works , no need to change.I run 15/40 for sprockets on the 17's ....decent enough to run all day long and still has good pull and run 15/45 on my 18/21 offroad set.

It takes me longer than 15 minutes to get the front caliper on. There isn't much clearance with the large rotor and 17" rim. I run a 14t with the 18" rear and put on the 15t when swapping on the 17" wheels.

I figure on about an hour start to finish for swapping over the wheels and resetting the computer.

That's the other thing - from the sticky note on the 610/630 page it looks like on the 630's you can't swap back and forth between SM and TE speed configurations? That sucks.

Heh, I hear that. What takes most of my time (on a 2009 TE610) is the damn chain. I have such a tough time maneuvering around the chain guide, but other than that, it's easy.

I have just picked up a set of SM wheels for my TE and was wondering if there is a bracket to allow me to run the 320 mm SM front rotor with the TE calliper.?
