    Hey all,
Noob to the forum but not to Husky.....

Picked up a used 09 te450 last week. Looks like it's never had any maintenance done to it. I pulled the swingarm and greased the linkage and pivot, cleaned the air cleaner, and I am in the process of changing the oil. I've cleaned the screens(inner/outer) and changed the paper filter. How much oil does this bike hold? I have it to the top notch on the sight window now. And is there any other oil related screens/plugs I should be checking??

I tried searching, but brain is fried....I gave up before I started weeping softly.....

I should be getting the service manual and owners manual in a week or two...

    Thanks in advance!

I do not use the oil level check bolt as it can strip out. If you stick to these levels you will have no troubles.

If the 09 te is the same as the 09 txc then there are three screens + filter, on the bottom left of the engine where there is the plate with the two bolts, there is another plug back in farther, and forward of that with one more screen.

And after removing these screens, you should be able to lean the bike over and get more out of the engine through these ports ...

Didn't see a screen on the "forward" port. Will check into that today. I thought there should have been something there.
    Thanks again.
I'll have to search out the parts manual on the site and see what it shows. If there is a screen there, I may be able to lay the bike on its side and pull it out. Or just do another oil change after this ride....

***** Laid the bike over and did find that last "forward" screen/o-ring. Thanks! She had some flakes on the screen, so I'm glad I checked.

I hope it doesn't rain to much today!

I have found the best way to change the oil is just pull the 2 screens on the left side, like you did. Lean the bike over and let drain. Then pick it up and rock it back and forth a few times and lean it over again. This gets almost all the oil out and gets more out than with the drain plug alone. I pull the drain plug on the bottom every 2-3 oil changes to check the magnet.

When you re install the screens, make sure the forward screen goes in first, then the o ring, then the plug. Kinda a dumb design and that o ring is easy to loose.

Ride was semi-successful... Some suspension fine tuning to do AND get rid of a off idle hesitation. Not good when you're trying to "blip" it over a log.
Nice having "the button" though. But she also kicks over easier than a lot of bikes I've owned.

    thanks!

rdbandkab...I took two clicks from stock out of the front and rear to soften the compression damping...changed the bike...it goes over whoops like my MX bike now. Also, powerup kit is not an option...it turns the bike into something to be reckoned with. No hesitation...no popping...just power.

Thanks for the suspension tips 1kstep!
The previous owner put about 300 miles on it before I bought it. And it looks as though all the power up mods were done. I'm having my dealer check the TPS and map and whatever else he can do his magic on.

lol I cant ever imagine selling a bike after 300 miles. i think I put more than that on the bike in the first month!

It says 1.8 but i just fill until the middle of the glass. I fill more toward the high side than the low since it cant hurt it.

It may been sold for personal reasons. Hopefully he can get everything situated and get another bike sometime.

Anyway......that's what I ended up doing(oil-wise). I noticed the little notches in the sight glass as I was filling up.
