Went riding in the Nevada Desert over the weekend with a buddy who rides a CRF450. We went to a place just outside Carson City called Johnson Lane also know as Pine Nuts. This is the very first time I've ever ridden in the desert. It's different than the trails I normally like to ride. The sand takes some getting used to. I'm happy to report that my 511 is a bad boy. I've always wondered how it would stack up against a 450 MXer. Well to my surprise it was blowing doors on that 450 in several drag races that went on during the day. Some of which I have on vid. It wasn't til I let off on the gas that he went squirtin' by me. We traded bikes for a little while and that is the first 450MXer that I've ever ridden. I was expecting a hard hitting powerband from the CRF. It was ok but I think mine has got more power. His 450, according to him, was a White Bros. race bike before bought it. Nice views of the back side of the Sierras. They were painting the sky all day... View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivX67A-D4cE&feature=c4-overview&list=UULTcPir9hLIM0LjjKMQ8qdw
Thanks for the drag race reporting ... I'm not surprised to hear a Husky can right along side a Japanese made bike ... -- That sand riding is hard for me also ... Just not a sand rider here...
Ive owned 2 Honda 450s and both TXC449 and 511. Not only is the 511 considerably stronger running, it also handles better and is easier to ride due to the CTS and the tractable EFI powerband.
Hey Rob, that's right you rode it at the CH Napa Ranch and you and I went on a little dual sport ride with you on Coffee's bike.
Sorry... New to the site and new to Husky. Just picked up the last 511 from Good Times in Sacramento. Have ordered an FMF and I have the power plug installed (also ordered a Seat Concepts). Question: What did you do to get your 511 to be THAT strong running?
It felt very squirlly. I'm just not used to riding in thick sand but was able to adapt to it. I wouldn't want to ride in it all the time, though. I bought my 511 from Good Times as well. That's about it, though. All my parts and accessories I get from MotoXotica in fact I don't think Good Times stock much of anything for Husky's parts wise. To answer your question I've got an FMF muffler and a Power Commander V so you're half way there once you get your FMF.
You will need just map 3 / open pipe map flashed on once you install the fmf pipe...older models needed programmers like pc5
The key to sand is ride as fast as you safely can. Fat front tire and dropping rear pressure a bit helps a lot.
