Hi new to the sight and after some advice on my 610. When you check the cam chain for wear people say how many clicks you have? I removed the middle bolt and spring then removed the hole unit from the barrel. Do people mean count the teeth showing this being the number of clicks out it is? I'm on 8 or 9 so guessing I need a new chain

The left kick model does not have the same problems with the cam chains as the electric start model. I would guess you are good to go.

Yeah I know that tensioner is a lot stronger but I've heard some say change the chain at 7 clicks and some say there still going at 12! I've had the side cover off as I did the neutral return spring and kick start return spring. It's not hitting the reed valve yet so I guess there's still some life in it lol

Check it by how many clicks are left, 4 or less only means its worn so start thinking about changing it.

You see so many people say different! I've read a lot of times it's the number of teeth showing? Which makes sense if you think about it. As the chain stretches the tensioner ratchets out and shows more teeth. Think I'll ask at husky sport next time I'm there. There mechacic is an old guy who has been there for ever really knows his stuff. Plus going by your way the more it's worn the less teeth would be showing? But everything you read on line says about 8 - 10 clicks is worn out

Have seen many times new chain has 8-10 out new.
If surface of cyl where tensioner mounts is machined more to get rid of porosity =fewer teeth out, if the cam chain guide mounting holes holes are off a little, if chain guides are worn. You see the early motors were not CNC machined lots of little errors.
Rethink what you said "the more its worn the less teeth will be showing".
When it wears it pushes into the chain and out of the tensioner leaving less teeth inside.
Only true way is to take chain off and measure it, but most don't want to take the time.
I've been inside thousands of these motors so have a good idea how and why it works.

Yes that's how I've said it. The more it wears the more it ratchets out. So less clicks will be left. You said you count the clicks left? Most on line say 8 - 10 clicks is an indication the chain is worn out. That has to be teeth showing as 8 - 10 clicks left to ratchet out would be the thing almost pushed right in. I will ring husky sport today and see what husqvarna opinion is on it. I will report back after ringing them

The mechanic at husky sport said the clicks out or left make no difference it's purly there to tension and not a wear indicator. He said they do them on milage so if I'm not 100% on when it was done change it. So looks like I'll be ordering one up! Doesn't look too hard a job
