Well, I had my first break down. I was going down a dirt road and the bike just quit and came to a stop. I tried to restart the bike and nothing happened. I was not getting any lights on the electronic guage. I lifted off the seat and the battery wire looked corroded and I thought that was it. I took the screw driver out of the tool kit and cleaned it up the best I could and was still not getting power. I cross wired the battery and got a spark so I knew the battery wasn't dead, so I decided to test the fuses. Well this is were it got interesting. The took kit did not contain the proper size allen wrench to take the cover off where the fuses are. Being a new bike I didn't really think it would be a fuse and thought maybe some wire wasn't connected. Anyways, after my brother in-law went and got his truck and hauled me back to camp, we discovered it was a fuse. The good thing was the bike had a spare fuse. Plugged it in and we were ready to ride. I am a little irritated that Husqvarna couln't have put in the allen wrench in the took kit that is needed to get to the fuses. Anyone else have an issue like this or with the fuses?
A fuse is something that can happen to any bike and hardly reflects on the manufacturer. I´ve got so many allen keys that I´ve been chucking them out. You get them free with practically anything you buy these days. I´ve not had a fuse blow yet. Have you checked to find out whether something´s shorting?
It is a bit strange that Husky omitted the correct allen key for the job, but when it is all said and done it is up to the individual to ensure that the right tools are on board. The first job with a new bike is to pull it apart and put it back together again while putting every tool used into a separate pile and only then do you have a semblance of a toolkit.
I've never had any problems with the fuses on my bike but I did see a 610 blow a fuse in Mexico. It was a very quick and easy fix. We figured it was either a frayed wire harness or some of the after market goodies that blew the fuse. Even if they did include an allen key in their tool kit, I wouldn't put much faith in it. The supplied 12mm wrench that came with my bike broke the first time I used it. A custom made tool kit is one of the first things I put together before I hit the trail.
Good you mentioned it. Checked my tool box and did not have a spare 3mm allen wrench so I replaced the allen screw with a Philips head.
Thanks for the input. Dan at Motoxotica where I bought the bike is having me bring the bike in tomorrow just to check things out. I was going in anyways for the Power Up kit and need a new rear tire. I am going to try out the Perilli MT21 for the first time. I took the bike apart and put it all back together again last night in the garage to see what tools were missing. The tool kit is missing a 19MM wrench and sizes 3 & 4 allen wrenches, other than than most sizes are covered. Does anyone have any suggestions on motorcycle tool kit.
Suggestions? Which quality popular name brand tools are available to you? Kincrome, Stanley... Take your pick. Buy sets and take what you need from them.
Sounds like the influence of BMW is taking hold - skimpy tool kits! Dramatic change over the years in the quality and quantity of tools that come with the BMWs.
T-Stretch. If you want to look at a nice motorcycle tool kit, that comes with more than just tools, (and options) check out Blue Ridge Racing. Still, you'll need to supplement that kit with some of the Husky-specific stuff, but it's a good starting point. Kinda lame that you need a tool to get to the fuses...
Suggest you stock your own tool kit - then your fate is in your own hands. Don't rely on any pot metal tools in a factory kit - that is throw away junk except for the plug wrench (and the T handle/sockets in a KTM kit)
Not for nothing, but the tool kits on the TE's have been exactly the same for years even before BMW was in the picture.. What bike comes with a great tool kit stock anyway..??? Especially in that price range...
Yes.. all 610's came with toolkits.. Mine is now somewheres south of Tecate.. along with some other nice spares like tubes, tire irons, in a brand new MS fender pack etc... Luckily in 2 days of Baja riding I never needed any of that stuff..
Yeah, after losing two of the damned things, I bought a simpler, smaller one. It holds A tube, and that's it. Tools went into a Giant Loop Majavi, which is pretty awesome I have to say :thumb
Interesting. Could be worth investigating, has been a common fault on a few 610SM's over here. Maybe the gremlin still exists. I rewired the lot. http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5244 and it keep's Officer POPO happy.
Well this isn't going to be my final post, however, I just traded in the TE630 for a BMW F800 GS. The TE 630 wasn't workingg for me on the road and it wasn't working for me in the dirt. I am going to be a two bike person. I battled between the KTM 990 Adventure and the BMW 800 GS. The BMW won on weight. Next spring Husky here I come. I have my eye on the TE 449 or the TE 511. Not sure at this point. Maybe even the TE 310. I want a street legal dirt bike that will do it on the trails. I don't care about the road. The street legal is just to get from one trail to another.
By Feb/March there should be many more reports about how those are doing. 3 fairly new models you are looking at.
