Justin Morrow/Nick Burson took the overall and first Open Pro on their Beta 498 RR. Axel Pearson/Tallon Taylor took the Two Stroke Pro class and third overall on their 250 RR. The pro class had one mass dead engine start and after the first 50 miles Justin Morrow brought the Beta 498RR into the pits with only a four minute lead on the open pro team of Max Eddy/Brad Pace. Justin handed the torch over to Nick Burson so he could complete his first 50 miles on the same loop. Coming in at third overall was Axel Pearson maybe a minute behind the second place team and handed the torch over to Tallon Taylor for his turn at the demanding 50 mile loop. Nick Burson finished his first ride on the 50 mile loop and added another five minutes to their lead now 9 minutes. Tallon Taylor still in third overall and first two stroke finished his 50 miles stint and handed the bike back to Axel. Every body stayed up and and bikes ran flawless and after the two hundred miles were completed and the dust settled The Beta's came out on top. Pictures below #3 Justin and #4 Nick.

    GXE Barstow 200

This was the first round of the Get Extreme series, and also the first event that the series has ever hosted. Erek Kudla has been helping put on races with multiple organizations over the years and decided he wanted to create his own series.

I teamed up with Axel Pearson after a call late thursday night after his normal team mate couldn't make the trip down to the race. We decided that Axel would start since I only had about an hour of riding time on the Beta 250 before I would go race it. I also wanted to have Axel start because he has been posting good results in the desert races and knew he would be able to put us in a good position. Before the race was a little hectic since Axel had a leaking fork seal and luckily TBT suspension was there to fix it for him, but this meant that Axel's bike had his forks apart just 30 minutes before the race was scheduled to start. I pushed my bike to the starting line and was ready just in case! TBT got his bike done just in time and we were able to go back to our original plan of him starting the race. He was dead last off the start, but made a few quick passes before he went out of our sight. The first bike to come in was our Purvines Racing stablemate of Justin Morrow. He came in with about a three minute lead over second, and then Axel came in third overall and 1st stroke pro. We switched arm bands and I took off onto my loop. Justin gave me some words of advice to just take it easy and not hit the ground, I am used to doing the high intensity WORCS races and he made sure to let me know that this was a long race and that I would have plenty of time to settle in. I took his advice and rode smooth and consistent on my loop. The course was a lot of fun and was fast but flowed pretty well. We hopped in a sand wash for a good 5 miles and it was just wide open! I was pretty surprised with how fast the 250 two stroke was since this was the first time I was really able to open it up. (I later found out that the motors were completely stock, which impressed me even more!) After the wash we got into some fast trails through the bushes with some rain washouts every once in a while, the suspension worked great even though it wasn't set up for me and I hadn't even messed with clickers! We then got into some technical hill climbs and I figured that would be my spot to make up time since that kind of stuff is what I grew up racing in the Nevada desert. I could see the dust cloud of Max Eddy getting closer to me and eventually I could actually see his red gear. I assumed I had caught up to about 30 seconds to a minute and was happy with the way I was riding. We then got onto some cross grain sections and the course made a left onto some virgin trails through the bushes and I missed the turn. (It was really windy, I would guess maybe 30-40 mph gusts and I believe the arrows got blown down because the course was marked pretty well.) I was able to back track and find the trail again but I definitely lost some time! When I made it back to the pits I found out that 2nd O/A was now about 3 minutes ahead and that upset me a little bit because I had him in my sight at one point. We were still leading the 2 stroke pro class and now had about a 5 minute lead. Axel went out and rode good and got the bike back to the pits in first and then I went out for the final loop of the race. I was starting to get a little paranoid out there since it's been so long since I have been in position to win a race and kept thinking that I was hearing a bike closing in on me, but when I would come to the stop checks, I would glance back and couldn't see any dust! I came over the last crest and saw the finish and knew that we had won! We had a pretty uneventful day once the racing actually started and we both rode smooth and fast! The only problems we had all day was Axel warped the rear brake pads on his bike, but since we rode seperate bikes, he had plenty of time to fix them before he had to go back out on his loop.
I want to thank Axel for teaming up with me and Ron Purvines and Purvines Racing for giving me the opportunity to race! Also I want to congratulate Nick Burson and Justin Morrow on winning the Open Pro class and winning the overall! I'm glad we could put the Beta's on the top step in both pro classes and get two bikes on the podium!

I also want to thank JMS Racing (Jeff Sheets & Catherine Rowe Sheets), Thor Mx, FMF racing, IMS, 100% Goggles, Leatt, Twin Air, Acerbis, and everyone else that I'm probably forgetting for the support that they have given me throughout the season.

... This race was put on by GXE! Its a new racing series and they did a great job! I was teaming up with Tallon Taylor because my main partner (Ryan Smith) wasn't able to make it! We decided to race 2-stroke Pro on our Beta 250 and that I would start!!
I had an ok start off the line and came thru the first corner around 5th! I made a couple quick passes. And tryed to hang with the leaders thru these fast sections but lost a little time due to a tip over!! I decided to just stay smooth and make no mistakes!! By half way thru the first loop I was able to catch 2nd and 3rd but dust was an issue so decided to wait for a rock section where I was able to get around Ryan Kudla and come in the pits pretty close to 2nd!!
Tallon had two good loops! He rode really good and smooth!! And my last loop I just rode consistant with no mistakes!! The Beta 250 2-stroke ran awesome! Thanks to the Bradleys and Glenn Taylor for the great pits!!
We ended up finishing 3rd O/A and 1st 2-Stroke Pro!!
I'd like to thank all my sponsors for the support: Purvines Racing, American Beta, Moose Racing, X Brand Goggles, Monster Energy, Abro Designs, PDI Racing, GPR Stabilizers,
BRP, Fastway, Dunlop, FMF, TBT Suspension, Motul, and Dirt Tricks!!!See More

Awesome -- Thanks for the update.

I guess they must be pretty stable in the dessert huh? That was my initial thought was that the geometry might not lend itself to high speed stuff, but I guess they sorted it out. Any thoughts?

Hi, how you doing. Nick's Dad here, David. I remember talking with you at one of the National in Idaho. Bike is very stable at high speeds and through the whoops. Kinda like the old 511 Husky but better. Plus the bike turns. Our TBT suspension guy has really improved the handling. Turner knows his stuff and has tested a bunch with Nick and the team. Nick really likes the motor with the six speed tranny. Bike goes 95 mph with stock gearing and 105 with changing the counter shaft one tooth.
