Team Purvines/Beta dominate District 37 Shamrocks Dual European Scrambles and Hare Scrambles this past weekend. On Saturday Shamrocks hosted two European Scrambles with two separate courses. Nick Burson and Justin Morrow lined up for their 10:30 start on course A and when the banner dropped their Beta's 498RR with their electric starters fired quickly and the bike's power piloted them into the lead. At the end of the start Nick Burson took the lead and Justin Morrow finally healthy after starting the season injured showed he has the speed to be a contender. The two battled the entire race pushing each other till their lead had grown so big over the field it was like two separate races. In the end Nick Burson won with Justin Morrow in tow less then tens seconds between them. Next race on course B with a few hours of rest it was again Justin Morrow and Nick Burson leading the start and by the time they reached the end Nick Burson slipped into the lead. Nick led the entire first lap but on lap two Justin had made the pass on Nick and by the end of lap three Justin had gaped Nick just a little bit. The crowds at home check were sensing an upset and cheered Justin on as he went thru the scoring chute. Nick Burson determined to win kick it up a notch and found away to reel Justin in. At the completion of lap four and Burson topped the hill before the home check you could hear the surprise from the crowd expecting Justin whispering "its Nick". Nick took the checkers and Justin running a close second maybe 20 seconds giving Beta both top spots in both races today. Shamrocks on Sunday had laid out a 24-mile loop totally new terrain from yesterday's races. Today's scrambles would consist of a 24-mile loop and navigating the loop three times. This time when the banner dropped Nick Burson and his Purvine/Beta 498RR shot out into the lead as if he had been shot out of cannon. Nick had 100 yard lead half up the starting area. Sitting in the pits Purvine/Beta pit crew could see a dust trial returning to the pits and Nick Burson was leading with about a thirty second lead on Justin Morrow. Nick pulled into the pits and while refueling stated he got lost several times but managed to find the course and still keep the lead. As Burson motored back on to the race course Justin had closed the gap as he elected to not take fuel and followed Nick onto the course only 10 seconds behind. The first lap had taken a little under forty minutes so the pit crew was caught off guard when Nick appeared on pit row in less than 30 minutes. They scrambled to their feet running over to Nick waiting to be fueled. Someone shouted out how did you get here so fast and Nick simple answer I went faster this time. After taking on fuel Nick proceeded out for his third and final lap and had opened a good size lead on his teammate Justin who came into the pits several minutes later. At the end of the race it was Nick's dog copper wagging his tail and happy to see Nick coming into the finish line chute. Nick Burson, Desert Master, the nickname given to him by Scott Cox, proved once again he and his Beta 498RR are a great combination for success. Justin followed a few minutes later giving Purvine/Beta a sweep of this weekend events hosted by the Shamrock's. Next weekends race GXE 8 hour team race in Gorman California. Justin and Nick will team together to put their Purvine/Beta out front once again.
