After watching the last few races with these guys, ESP our 250 riders and the way they rode and kicked buttt at the end of season, I'm feeling better on our chances against the worlds' best and more seasoned riders. I always watch the interviews and these riders carry them selves very well and set a very good example to follow. Maybe I should add the Helmets?
Not a fan of the helmets... All the countries have not only colors but a pattern... They need skunk stripes
Behind the power curve again on what a skunk stripe is really ... The overly large sponsor ads, well, I just accept those as part of the show... -- I walk in the dealerships here from time to time and look at the yammaLube ... Nothing to report on yet ...
I actually use yamalube 2r..... FIM helmet for us is red white and blue with 2 white stripes from front to back....
I agree. Lets at least try to keep a little bit of tradition. I thought the original design was all blue with just the 2 white stripes. Edit: lifted from the ask Ping column on racer X. Cale, I hope you appreciate the work I did here, man. This was not an easy question to answer. I started with DC, who is our go-to moto historian. He didn't answer his phone. I called Troy Lee to see if he knew where the tradition started. He said it began back in the 1950s but he didn't know the story behind it or how it originated. Then I called Weege, who was likely thinking of ways to save more money. He directed me to Jeff Fredette, an off-road ace who has been around for decades. Jeff said they are required to run the stripes in ISDE competition but he didn't know when that began. He gave me the number to a gal at the AMA who may or may not know. At that point I took a break and wondered if all this work was really worth it for this one question. After all, I could just type out some dandy fluff and then tell you to pound sand and my work would be finished. The Walter Cronkite/Katie Couric in me just wouldn't let that happen though. I pressed on and decided to blow DC's phone up until he answered. He picked up and informed me he was in the middle of a meeting. I sheepishly asked if he could just answer my one question about where the stripes came from. "Oh," he perked up. "That came from the FIM, who regulated that each country in International competition have a designated color. America was given the color blue but since France was also blue they required us to have the two white pinstripes on our uniforms. That became known as the "Skunk" helmet with the big, white V down the middle." According to Fredette the stripes are still absolutely required in off-road racing where the stripes are seen as a prestigious emblem and something you have to earn. However, in motocross events, the tradition is wavering. Riders now have big-dollar deals with energy drink companies and that could be playing a part in the disappearance of the skunk helmet. PING Edit #2. Found this in this years ISDE rider info packet. 3. Trophy, Junior and Women’s Trophy Team and ALL Club Team member helmets MUST be painted to comply with FIM regulations. Blue with 2 white bands (para. 01.73 of the FIM Technical Rules) with the flag of the USA on the sides. The two (2) stripes used to be just off center to the right - parallel to each other, hence the term "skunk stripe". Over the years the two (2) parallel stripes turned in to a V - with the open portion of the V in the front. The blue color is a darker sky blue with two (2) - 1" white stripes in a V down the center. If you qualified for the Arai helmet program, they will come painted. USA Flag decals (provided) must be affixed to each side of your helmet. This is an FIM rule and must be respected. Edit #3. In case you can't tell I absolutely love the MXdN! Been to a few of them and it is by far the best race of the year in my opinion. I could go on and on.....again, but I derailed one of Robertaccio's threads last year with my MXdN ramblings so I won't do that again. So I'll just say GO USA!!! I like our chances. But.... France looks like an unstoppable locomotive right now. It'll be tough to beat them on home soil.
It was a way to identify where each rider came from.... I dont care if they put Rockstar or whatever but it needs the stripes period.... I dont think we have a very good chance.... just my opinion.... I think the last few weeks has proved what I said all along.... Barcia is solid near the front guy but he will be on a track he most likely hasnt ridden... if he gets a back start its game over Martin's starts suck half the time and he wont be able to rip thru these guys like he does the back markers here.... Webb is so fast but way inconsistent.... I hope he can pull out 1 good moto because he will probably yard sale once and again riding new tracks on a 450 that he will get to ride for 3 weeks.... The thing with MXoN is its a team race. He seems to have picked crazy fast guys that have a tendency to have 1 good moto and 1 bad moto..... It'll be france (Musquin, Paulin, Febvre) then Britian (Wilson, Antsie, Simpson) then US
Here's the real McCoy view ... I guess I can see the look ... Not a show stopper for me for sure ... The states might have went with the hooded skunk look... -- I don't think MM25 ever showed the speed JM1 had or even Coop ... He was forced to block our riders all yr long to keep in front of them ... Take The-Leap as an example .. MM never jumped it this yr and he blocked JM1 once heading up the jump face to keep ahead of JM1 ... JM1 got him later if my memory is correct ... Coop is 18 and raced less than half the outdoors? And now on a 450? DeCoster is his daddy for the next few weeks ... I'm down with Roger also ... -- Already saw online where France is practicing as a team ... Sort of weird since they are also doing the FIM racing ... Do they have access to that track in the weeks ahead of the race? -- After the States, I'm for any and all Husqvarna riders to get as much camera time as possible .. A.K.A. 'run at the front of the pack' ... The team down-under is 2 out of 3 Huskies :0) Maybe SP can show and take the microphone?
Ya, they have been practicing as a team for a couple weeks now. Here's a video of them practicing at Ernee. The same track the race will be at. Home field advantage, defending champs, they are taking this race seriously. Good for them. That place is going to be a mad house! Damn I wish I was going! http://racerxonline.com/2015/08/21/team-france-testing-at-ernee As much as I like our off season races like the monster cup and straight rhythm I kinda wish they didn't exist. In my opinion they're just soul less, money making, exposure races. They're is no heritage, tradition or prestige in them. They will both likely be gone in a couple years anyway to be replaced with the rockstar dipshit race and the mountain dew who gives a crap open.
Ya but hes "blocked" him successfully a few times this year.... if you get a crappy start your screwed..... Plus france is testing at the track....
Let'em test ... Probably gives them something to do while waiting on their next MX race. We need to send our guys over quickly after the USGP and get some time there ... -- No real interest in the MC or the sx rhythm events ... -- Did you see the 1st 250 moto start last week? That was his ~best chance at beating JM1 in that moto and it failed even before the fuel pump failed or what ever happened...
Actually they both have 9 moto wins this year..... So he has beat him... the biggest problem is JM1 has beat himself with crap starts... He gets a bad start at Ernee its game over because he wont come back to a 5th heck he will have to come thru 450s and 250s and the best of the best..... screw USGP send them guys over now and get started
Friend of mine has bought a old farm house 6 miles from the track and has been living there for ages now while renovating parts of the property and even walks his dog Blue down to the track and the surrounding area. Guess what ????? No French or any other nation riding on said track so where does this information come from ?
old days of moto the country you rode for and represented for was also the location of the bike's manufacture...... CZ-Czechs, MZ-DDR, Husky-Swede, BSA,Greeves-UK, Beta-Ita, etc etc
