http://www.losancianos.com/HareScrambles.html OK super early post, but plenty of time to get your passport in order and mark the calendar!! Oh and practice your single track skills.
Nice web site on the event ... Looks like a well organized event and the terrain looks good also ....
This has always been the best East coast style race (ride) in the SW zone. Always epic and always filled with world and national class riders. Never easy never boring and the pit environment is always super cool.
Husky Heaven!!! Site has been updated, the list of winners and competitors in LAMC events is a who's who of world class off road riders and industry professionals. http://www.losancianos.com/HareScrambles.html
Thanks Robert, I just put the race date in my datebook. This is a short trip from my home in Glendale, AZ. Got to come down and cheer for my friends in the Pro Class and I plan to ride the morning race as well. South of the Border here we come, see ya at the races DB in AZ.
AZs very own Taylor Robert is probably the guy to beat this year (pending his entry of course). Garrison is another one for the top of the podium radar screen if I was a betting man. The only time I'll see them is at the start, the long course is good for not getting lapped. http://www.losancianos.com/Podium2011.jpg
Oh Bob, I disagree with your pick. I have known Taylor since he was racing 60's and have interviewed a number of times and yes he did win last years race. But, if this is a true "Hard Core Losancianos" event I going to put my $$$$ on Cory Graffunder. Cory is always a Top 3 guy at a real off road race and if it turns into an Extream type of race, he will be "The Man" to beat. DB in AZ, ya know what I mean.
just spoke with a LA member yesterday out in a local ride zone. As they said on the web site pro loop will be shorter @20 mile so all can get in 2 laps. Last year it was @ 1.5 hour per loop and somewhere in the mid 20mile length. For us normal guys like Dave and I, starting on the 40B line with him 1st 40B me 2nd and it was close to 3 hours on the trail total time. One of crew missed the cutoff time and was highly pissed. I came very close to missing the cutoff from my brake pedal bending and trail/pit fixing issue and our dumb choice of pit locations.......right near the end of the loop instead of after the start finish check at the beginning of the loop. (bad logistical, ignorant move). Also there were a few bottle neck spots that relied on gentlemenly behavior that really screw up with timing, they said they would try to eleiminate that, but I hope by not making it easier. Those wait spots were cake for some of us and I was 50 yo in the 40b class, I hope they have the 2 line concept in effect. I mentioned it to them. We did a HS (one that Graffunder won in Tecate) that they had a couple of 2 line breaks that worked really good. The first was a do or die rock jump that I did on the 1st loop but after I took the alt line after I was a little fatigued for safety. The first time it helped me pass guys that I was stuck behind, so that is a great option for the LAMC race hope they do that sort of deal. PS long winded (as usual for me) but need to add, the 310 is amazing did almost 3 hours of seat time in summer heat in our local zone, that thing just works with little effort, single track, rocks, sand, she eats the stuff up!! THS training......all ready.
http://www.losancianos.com/HareScrambles.html entry form is up, plenty of classes for all levels and ages. http://www.losancianos.com/2012_Tecate_HS_Entry.pdf I am stepping up after my 2011 2nd place 40B finish (as a 50 year old). I am signing 50A (some will say finally). Forget the trophies the class is stacked with former MX pros and ISDE vets, but say hello to start near the front row, open no bottle neck trails and more smiles per mile with no frustrating traffic blocking and screwing up my good technical stuff timing. This is all about fun anyway.
Might have sign up. You just provided me with ANOTHER excuse to head down to the greatest little city in the world (Tecate).
Last reminder. Coming very soon. The best east coast style XC event in the SW(SoCal-N Baja region). Hope for a few more rain storms to come through and keep it moist in the THS zone!! My TE310 is getting her pre race makeover/tune up/race prep. http://www.losancianos.com/HareScrambles.html
The only thing that keeps me from comming Which I have come before one of the best races is That thing called the border How can we move that line a few miles and race in the USA Robert i so want to go Can you beleive I turn down a car drive for the 1000 this year I was offer to drive a section of the 1000 in the same car I won the 1000 in just a few years ago and also turned that down I so miss Mexico but also do not feel safe there anymore
All the modern era races have been right out of Rancho Santa Veronica or like now the latest ones just some close miles south from RSV near the first Mil check point on the Compadre trail(road).
2 solid days of the 4 day weekend of hardcore trail riding. Hope both me and bike are ready (confidence says yes we are)
