Hi all, my first post....so hopefully in the right place..i got the terra three weeks back. I'm in Australia and had a restricted license until Monday. Well got the bike derestricted and serviced today, 1200kms. The power diff is huge. I've read elsewhere on this forum 35kw to 43kw is not much..trust me, night and day. Power wheelies all over 1st and 2nd now.my question is, I've babied her to 1000km, never going over 6000rpm. 1000 to 1200 I started going to 7000rpm. The engine service indicator never came on. She's been plugged in and serviced now. When I rev her up in 1st and 2nd she hits a limiter at 7500rpm with an orange engine light that comes on. To get rid of the engine light I have to clutch and let her idle for a second. Is this normal (7500 limiter) and could it be because the service indicator never came on, leaving the ecu in some sort of nanny mode? I'm on a road trip right now, adding about 1000kms to the bike, and will report back should the rpm ceiling increase. BTW the bike Is stock , though I have a booster plug at home waiting for an install. Cheers

I wonder if it is load (throttle %) related - does the light come on when revving to 7,500rpm in neutral, stationary? Both power ratings are at the same speed - 7,250rpm. Did the dealer have to reflash the ECU for the uprate or just change the throttle cable bracket only? My dealer said both had to be done.

You found the right place to ask your question, welcome!

I just looked at my bike, red line is at 8,000 rpms, which I've never attempted to get to on my TR650. Not sure if I can get that last 500 rpms or not.

Regardless, I thought the dyno graphs indicated max power and torque was about 5,200 rpms (or something like that), which is why I have not attempted redline at 8,000 rpms.

I have been up to the 8k redline. No engine light for me.

Thanks for the info guys. Ive not tried to redline stationary, I accidentally hit the limiter after derestriction in first..revved so much quicker. She's got enough kms on for me to try stationary, I'll report back. Btw the limiter at 7500 is abrupt to the point of being violent. Pretty dangerous if it were to happen to a novice. The dealer plugged the bike in and checked for fault codes. None found, so I'd assume no reflash. Scutler, what mileage have you got on yours?

Nev.. had his bike derestricted so we'll see if he had his ECU reflashed/mossed as part of the upgrade as my dealer was quite adamant it had to be done. Just wondering with the extra travel of the throttle butterfly requires a reflash. Just blue-skying.

3300kms is almost double what I've done. I suppose I'll take her to the stealer when I get a gap.it doesn't bother me unless I'm hard on first or second gear, but an engine light is probably not a good thing!

I, like Scutler have been up to the 8k mark. Certain mergers around here almost demand it. Never bounced off it, so I'm not sure if it is a hard cut out or soft cut out. For sure gets up to 8k though.

I found this out too when finding the limiter. It just cuts the motor all together.....Just about went over the bars;)

Mine goes hard all the way to eight grand with no rev limiter. I've still got the throttle restriction on though it shouldn't make any difference?

Tested sound on mine Saturday. Hitting rev limiter all stock, the bike put 108 DB at three feet.

An update on my engine cut out. Competed 2400kms with the bike so far. I installed the booster plug at 1700kms , the booster works when its cool, 25c and below.what a big difference! Unfortunately over 25c she still does a bit of a stutter/stall. Took the booster off today in 37 deg c and the was an immediate difference in idling. Rode the bike 2kms to the dealership and she still cut out as before. What I know so far : cuts out at 7 to 7500 rpm when under load in 1st and 2nd, never tried 3rd as I don't expect a difference. Only happens when I pin the throttle, not when revving gradually...as is when doing a wheelie. Does not do it stationary in neutral clutch in or out.does not do it when in 1st stationary and clutch in. I'll be damned. Lets see if the dealership can figure it out.

Fuel pressure problem? Could be the fuel filter blocked. I haven't investigated the fuel filter on the Terra, but hopefully it's not $AU400 like the filter on my VStrom 1000.

Bike is still at the dealership, 12 days and they can't figure out the cause. I'm a patient man but simply can't take this anymore. Suppose to go on an epic ride in just over a week and not sure if I'll have the bike. Starting to think I might be stuck with a lemon. All my farkles arrived, Ventura tough rack, bark busters , swm skid plate, toolbox n crash bars....but no bike. So if this bike breaks down in the outback I'm screwed. If mech's can't fix a light in 2 weeks how can I do field repairs. Starting to regret my purchase unfortunately. Love the bike , but its gotto be right.

rode it yesterday about 28 degrees F had the throttle pinned in 4th passing a line of 6 cars, I never noticed the revs but the motor did a hard cut out twice in quick violent succession, stock motor, just over 3000 miles, several cut outs at idle last summer but nothing like what others have experienced, I purchased the booster plug but have not installed it since cooler weather here. could this be a fuel issue? using recommended high test fuel

That sounds like rev limiter kicking in. I haven't hit the limiter on my Terra. You'd have to do it again and keep an eye on the tacho to see what's going on there.

To hit the limiter in 4th you would have to be flying! I sincerely hope you don't have the same problem as me jonsweet. See if you can replicate it? If not you're probably good. Mine does it every time

Reading between the lines, I think the OP would appreciate some feedback from owners who have derestricted their bikes to see if they suffer from the same issue.
