I met some guys from Kwaj back in 1980. They got on the plane with me and went to Ponape and I went on to Australia eventually. They were memorable for how much they drank and their desire to dive with the sharks. I guess the sharks were everywhere on Kwaj so maybe no choice.
I would surf / snorkel all the time and there were sharks everywhere. No one ever got bit. I have footage of my dad feeling them. They were not huge ones though, maybe 5 feet, white and black tip I believe. BTW, they are pretty good eatin. There were big sharks but on the ocean side (as apposed to lagoon side) and in deeper water. I saw a HUGE tiger or something once while snorkeling, glad I was in the water so no one saw me wet myself.
