www.thebattleofatlantaatsocialcircle.com If you don't see it in the small print, it's worth mentioning we're going to have a WEC style obstacle course (every obstacle will have a longer grass track bypass). There's a little easy mx, some great woods trail....it's really good land. I can't wait to post pictures. Next week. Stay tuned.
FYI, the WEC style obstacle course is brought to you by Lowe's. They're providing all the materials. screw home depot.
Well, I kinda think that most of this forum is west coast guys but I'll go ahead and give a little bit of news for anyone considering coming. I can't say specifically who the pros are that have said they're coming, but IF who I hear is coming actually does show up, we will have several of the biggest names in off road racing in the US. Yes, just the GNCC series, but I promise these aren't some wanna be fast guys. The names are the biggest of the big names. I was quite shocked when I got the news tonight but it appears as though we'll have several current and past champions. Honestly, I'm kinda blown away at how big this is becoming.
I've been quietly working on this in the background. And I just sent a key message. Remember the instructions in my last PM to you? If you have not done that, this week would be the ideal time. You will not regret it, but nothing may come of it either. My guess would be that many on cafe husky do not know you, and it is a bit far for the North east people to go, especially in the winter so close to the start of the work week the next day. We do not have many members near Atlanta. That is probably one of the reasons you did not get a response.
These kind of events are soooo much fun for us weekend warriors, to ride with the Pros on the same course. We would love to able to do this one but it is a little bit too far. We will be watching this one, it sounds great!! Best of luck with the event ARod2000!! Cmon southeast riders jump into the mix!! R All I can give is this token on-line support,,,,hope even this brings in some motivation!!
Thanks Dean for your help I did do what you instructed in that PM - no response. Also went through other good avenues. I did get word that if Glenn Kearney was in the US that he'd race it but you'd think he'd know when he comes back from NZ. Regardless, I hope some representatives from Husky are there. I'd really like to see my brand at my race! And regarding being a bit far from the northeast - we have preregistered racers from Canada! and as far west as Nevada....like I said, I'm shocked at how big this has become. But then again, we've put a great deal of effort into working with sponsors and marketing the race. It seems to be paying off
Based on your post #3 of this thread, you did get a response, but I will not know for sure until your reports come in. You going to have some casual photographers there that will be ready and willing to post up pics? On this site too? I am sure you will have pro-photographers there too...
Oh yeah, I'll be one of the casual photographers and I"ll be sure to post pics. We will have pro photographers there as well.....and pro videographers. Expect some slick videos.
The obstacle course is coming together nicely.... And we have a creek jump with a bridge bypass if you don't want to jump... More obstacles are coming....an over/under bridge, tires - big un's, little 'uns, logs logs and more logs.
That looks awesome! I wish it wasn't just one week before the cross country race at Perry Mountain. I'm not in good enough of shape to be racing every weekend.
We finished up Ben's Treehouse of TERROR today :: (notice the size of the bike compared to the size of the treehouse. Not much wiggle room....just the way we want it. :: ) That's me. And I will admit my first attempt to get up there didn't go so well ::smirk:: I actually got better traction than I thought and almost looped out at the very top :: . I rolled all the way back down and then checked the soil density.....it's good ::up:: And then had a few helpers roll over some hay bales. They will come in handy. ::up:: Wouldn't you know it, the camera messed up just as I was making the approach for the exit ramp. :aranoia:: And are almost complete with the Michael P's Over-Under Bridge. We will be adding some railing since racers can choose their line either over or under. Most of the times you'll see this obstacle where you go over and then circle back and go under. We will be making ours so that it will be really difficult to tell which line is faster. ::geek:: Something to discuss on SAturday night
I'll be there with my son as moral support for a friend who's riding as part of a local dealer's team. Maybe next year I'll make an attempt myself just to say I tried it. I will definately bring my camera. By the way, those obstacles look like fun once or twice, but not for 8 hours
Thanks Dean, the popularity of those pics has soared in the last week. So much that too many people were viewing for photobucket so they pulled the plug on my photos. Yesterday was awesome, it was so great to see people start to show up in big rigs and to see all of the obstacle course finally ribboned off. Here's the latest update that I put over on Georgia Off Road...... The Treehouse of TERROR has been OWNED. ::shocked:: In an unauthorized move a race volunteer has conquered the treehouse. It was not my intention to allow this. It was kind of like the flyby from the movie Top Gun ("Negative ghostrider, the pattern is full").......he did it anyways ::rollieyes:: and he nailed it perfectly. ::up:: ::smirk:: Look at that form...very nice job. YES, that is GOR's own Josh Shields (o2bmxin). And that is "The Man" Frank Mann in the background. Frank observed the first attempt and can verify Josh owns it. The pictures above were a later attempt. However, a few eggs must be cracked to make a cake. And Josh was no exception. Just like all four who have attempted the treehouse, Josh ate it big time, a couple of times even. The honorable Bates Beckham captured this image with his cell phone. That's a great photo^^^ This (below) is a better photo.... ::rotf:: That fall claimed the rear fender on Josh's bike and we felt putting the plastic on the tree was the right thing to do. I wonder how much plastic will be on the tree Sunday afternoon ::rotf:: That's ^^ the bypass route that many of you will be taking. ::smirk:: It's about 30 seconds longer. And the bypass for "The planks of DEATH" is about 15 seconds longer. They are the longest bypasses.
Spent about 4 hours here this morning walking the course and watching the race. Holy c%#p was it cold for this part of Georgia this time of year - 27F at 10:00 am! I have definately lost my yankee cold endurance Amazing obstacle course you guys put together; was fun to watch the treehouse and rubber tire crossings - good spills but no one got hurt that I saw. The property and trails were amazing and it all seemed to flow well. What a first class first race you put on. Congrats.
Thanks for the kind words. We were very pleased with the event and we appreciate your support. The turn out we had blows me away given the very very cold temperatures. Pit row was filling fast by mid afternoon Saturday so we opened up another pit row beside it. That row only filled up a little ways but if it had been good weather??? I couldn't imagine, we would have been swamped. And we were pretty full as is. fyi, the OA winners were Steward Baylor and Kailub Russell. Second was Russel Bobbit and Cory Buttrick. Third was Thad Duvall, Barry Hawk and Ryan Belue.
Goon Hammer came in 7th in the AA Division? Oh I get it, lots of creative names used for teams I saw your note regarding 'limited downloads', you may want to find another server that has less sites on it (5.4 million sites on that godaddy machine). Let me know if you need help.
