This race was gnarly. craziest mud I have ever seen let alone raced in. Check out this video my buddy did as he tagged along for the madness
Shameless plug, but this is coming up again this year on April 19th in Wyandotte, OK. http://www.theoffroadcup.com Steve promised it wasn't going to be a mud fest this year, and that this place it's at will hold up to any weather we get. I wasn't going to run it again, but the racing bug is biting me hard with it being 5 months since I've ridden, and I'm considering going down and giving the Ironman class a go.
I'm planning on doing the 9hr +35 ironman class! Going to take the WB165!!! should suck and be awesome all at the same time! Actually trying to experiment with taping my hands to help stop any blisters and looking into anti monkey butt stuff even though i generally dont have a problem with that and planning how and what to eat!
Yep, for sure put a fresh set of cushy grips on. Several pairs of tight fitting gloves on hand. Taping is hit or miss for me. Definitely where padded compression shorts. Food, I don't even know. I usually do oatmeal for breakfast before enduros, but in a 9 hour window after oatmeal, I'll surely have to stop and take a dump 5 hour energy and la bunch of water. Lots of bananas. Beer for the finish line. I posted something on facebook and Stephanie saw it and called me out on it, so I pretty much have to do it now. I've got a buddy trying to get me to get on his team with his son, but that puts me down into C class, and between he and I, we'd be sandbagging hard. Ironman has some appeal, but I know there will be some AA's in there with me. But 9 hrs...gah, I'm so tempted it isn't even funny. I'm going to try to get some sense talked into me tonight. If the naysayers fail to sway me, it's on.
That was some good fun, great weather, rough course, good times. Chums - I'm pretty sure we were only a couple spots down from each other on the start. And saw each other a few times on the trail too. Didn't see you afterwards in the pits to say hi, but I'll admit I was pretty out of it after 9 hrs.
Well got back early this morning from the 9hr! Met a bunch of good people including a few fellow Husky owners! Had an adventure on the WB 165 resulting in a 2nd place finish in the +35 Ironman! Towards the end I was playing a numbers game and put enough laps down to lock in 2nd before calling it a day lol. It was a rock filled track that us Iowa boys never ever ride so needless to say it was a learning curve and some suspension adjustments! How did everyone else do who went?;
If you had the wr250 then I did see ya! Another guy just across from me had a 310 and we talked during one of my gas stops. Yeah those rocks were pretty tough and rough for 9hrs! I had a good 1st time and met another guy from KS who's son won the junior class on a cr125. I'll be back! And if I forgot how tired I am by then I might ironman it again, I definitely learn some things for next time!
Yep, I was there on more or less a wr250. Crazy thing was about 7 hours in, I got a huge second wind and felt completely fresh. Amazing how those up and downs roll through during that long of a ride. Had another Cafe member from KS win the 50+ Ironman on a WB165. That was pretty awesome.
I was in the same boat! got crampy about 4 1/2 hrs in and fought that till the last lap when I got that 2nd wind you were talking about! Was the 50+ guy on a white and blue Husky 165? If so I had a chance to talk to him for just a minute, was super nice. I never felt like I was lacking power the hole time on the 165 and it had great lug going up the hills so it wasnt spinning out like some. I thought my 300 would have been a handful for that long of a race! I really didnt ride hard enough to get winded or pumped up so I hope next year I can keep the cramps away and do a little better! I'm real happy with my finish for this being the first time doing the race.
