  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tight gas cap

Are all the gas caps on the TE449/511 really tight to get on and off? Do they loosen up or can you lube it with Vaseline or something? Or is their a replacement cap which cures this? I thought I had it tight the other day but when I stopped after some trail riding I noticed that it was wet from the gas coming out so I tightened it down but when I went to fill it was really tight.

They all seem that way from stock. I complained until the dealer bought me an aluminum one. That totally cured the problem. (Thanks Honz)

Are the aluminum ones factory or aftermarket? If factory which bike is it from and if aftermarket who sells them? Thanks!

If anything they get worse with time, but Ive managed to make mine work for almost 3 years....must be the perfect humidity level in Oregon or something.....

What fuel are people using where the cap is bending?
I know that my old Hypermotard had a recall on the tank as the material didn't like E10 mixed fuel. Its expanded.

We get ethanol and a special ” summer blend” here in CA. Just a scam to create short term supply issues when they switch back and forth so they can soak ya for a couple of weeks.

i like the aluminum gas cap but $70 is a little high dont u think!?
Not sure what it takes to make one of those, could be a lot of scrap metal after machining. I know the price of AL is quite high last I checked.

In any event, personally I think of 'value' when it comes to things like that. "functional bang for the buck" type of thought process.

Though I suppose I should not comment because I do not have a 449/511 bike....
