  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tire Sizes. MEFO

Hello all.

Looking for some tires for my '13 TE449. I ride 50/50. I really like the MEFO Explorer tires. MEFO makes te correct size for the front (90/90-21).....but on the rear, the cloest I found on ebay is 130/90-18 and 140/80-18 but stock size is 140/90-18.

Is it safe to say that the 130/90 is 10% less width than stock.....?
and 140/80 is 10% less sidewall height than stock....?

Would these 2 size differences be that noticeable from stock?
Wish MEFO made the correct size.

Thanks guys
Sav

PS If you guys know of any other tires that are 50/50, Let me know

I ride alot of street to get to my pretty rough trails, some trails, pretty tight singletrack. My bike's OEM rear was a 140 width. I now use a 110 width after seeing other big bore thumpers running the 110 width, My TE450 handles so much quicker with the more narrow tire.

I don't think you feel a difference, except an improvement with a narrow tire.

BTW, my measurements on Pirelli's XCMH showed the following:

140 width tire actually measured 130mm
110 width tire actually measured 120mm

You know what's weird.....

According to the specs on this bike(2013 TE 449....bikes.com), rear tire size is 140/90-18. My bike I bought 100% new, 0 miles, I checked the rear tire and I have 140/80-18!!! Not what is soposta be on there. Either bikez.com is wrong, the dealer switched it or husky changed the size. Both tires stock and are the Michelin Enduro competitions. I know it's not a big deal between sizes but still.....

Anyone else notice this with your new bike? I wonder what happened?

Sav

I use Dunlop D606's and they work great on and off road. They might be more like a 75/25 though.

Don't get too hung up on original tire specs. Those tires are to qualify that bike for european enduro circuit. My TE310 listed 140s too. Way too big for the bike. Now run 110/100/18s. 80/100/21 fronts. More fun.

Bike was bought, new to me, with Motoz tractionators front and rear. Motoz was a 130 width and was pretty loud on asphalt to get to/from trails but a TRACTOR of a tire in the mud and that was on the DRY directional setting. Swapped out the motoz for a narrower Kenda Trailmaster as all the guys rave about them out here....meh...quiter on ashphalt but going back to the MOTOZ at a 120 vs 130 width for upcoming season

Update...just got back from a 75/25 offroad/ashphalt ride with the new tire..motoz tractionator 120x90x18 ST. Installed it with "wet setting" due to spring. Man...I won't even BOTHER thinking anything other than MOTOZ from here on. It's relatively quiet and just hooks up!. Will give warnings to riders who follow about the roost of mud that literally fires out of the back. Super happy and would recommend this tire to ANYONE looking for a DOT aggressive tire...now my front looks worn in comparison...today.JPG
