So I'm the proud new owner of a 2006 WR250. I am really wanting to add a dash of some kind to keep track of mileage, trip meter functions, time of day, race timer (maybe). I know the Voyager does all that, plus GPS and tach. I have read mixed reviews that some love it and some hate it. I'm thinking I may just go for their Vapor Speedo, but thought I'd get some opinions from the Cafe. Please feel free to just vote or leave comment or both. Thanks!
I have used both vapour and voyager .the voyager is more water proof and has more user friendly functions for dirt bike riding the vapour worked ok was very basic it died after I left the bike uncovered outside in a heavy rain storm so brought the voyager and could not be happier .
I've had a voyager for 3, 4 yrs now ... It does what I want ... It's not flashy or anything and may not be 100% waterproof ... You might wanna check out the other handheld GPS devices that have lots more support for city driving and such things ...maybe more maps online? The core memory on it is not too large and you can top-out the space there and it will not show really large GPS files completely is about the only shortcoming I h see with the device ... Also, I had broken off the small toggle cap off one of the controls ..Trail tech will send out more if you ask them ... -- I should add this device allows a pre-determined route to be drawn out and loaded from googleEarth onto the voyager and then I go out and try to find and ride the route I laid it ... Don't think all gps support this and for my riding, this is very important for finding new places to ride here.
Have the Vapor and really like it. Mounted on my txc 310 with a little modification to the Aluminum KTM model bracket since they don't make a full enclosed one for my model bike. RPM read-out is nice!
How did you wire the tach lead on the 310? At some point I wanted to add the hour meter/tach but never did as was not sure the optimum way to do it.
Johnrg, The tach is easy. You just wrap the tach sensor wire around your spark plug wire above the plug. Here are a couple of pictures of the mount and spacer.
One other question. How does the included mount hold up? Are the optional sexy mounts that much better? Thanks for the replies so far. I think I'll leave this up and running until at least next month when I'll be back to riding again.
The plastic mount that comes with it is not very strong and did not center. Someone else posted breaking two of them and with that I sought better protection do to the fact that I crash and I also did not want a branch taking my computer off. This aluminum mount is way better! Branches will not take it off and in a crash it might bend but not break! Sorry to take this thread off your question, but hope it gives you information on setting up which ever one get right the first time!
Not at all, exactly what I needed to know. Thanks! Either way I go, these things aren't cheap and would like it to last. It's going to be raced regularly so tough is a must.
The newer bikes don't have a spark plug wire, they have pod coils. I think you can splice the wire to the sensor wire though.
Yes.... Had seen a few variations of attempts to get it working with the coil pack/2 wires but wasn't sure which was preferred.
I've got an 07 wr250 and I have installed the vapour as I was too tight to spend the extra on the voyager and my stock speedo was unreliable. It's pretty good with my only real gripe being I have to scroll through each time to get to trip meter if watching engine temp which is important on my bike! My advice is don't trust the plastic arm mount it looks really flimsy so I junked it straight away! I made up a plate out of ally that I bolted straight to the existing husky speedo mount. It is fine but the sexy mounts that wrap around for protection look the goods! You should have no dramas hooking up the temp and tachometer with your model too if mine is anything to go by
