I mounted the top case from my '02 R1150RT on my TR a few months ago using the stock luggage rack and a RT top case mount I found on eBay. I like the RT system cases. They are roomy, waterproof, and very rugged. I can't ride both bikes at once and I wanted a lockable compartment for when carried my laptop or other valuables. I wasn't entirely happy with the stock rack configuration so I put the AltRider rack back on and brainstormed. This particular case likes to sit more or less level so this is what I came up with: I used a 11 3/4" long piece of 3" Sch40 DWV drain pipe, some nylon bushings, and an assortment of 1/4x20 bolts and nylon lock nuts. I had intended to paint the PVC spacer black but it matches the bike quite well, as do the end caps which turn the spacer into a truly watertight tube for storing tools and or parts. Be a great place for tire irons. Used two Oatey pressure tester plugs as the end caps. It's super rigid and would work with about any type of top case and mount and there's enough room on the empty rack for a nylon tail bag for more vigorous off road than I'd feel comfortable with using that System Case.
What kind of Altrider rack is that? It looks like it does not need the OEM rack to work but the only rack I can find on the Altrider EU website is the one that bolts on to the OEM rack.
It is an AltRider. I guess it is an older model. It looks more or less like the one on the Altrider website but has arms that extend down and mount to the lower frame holes where the original mount bolted. It came with the bike when I bought it. I replaced it with the stock rack because the stock rack has much better handles and my wife rides with me every now and then. But it is flimsy and I wanted something more robust.
Pretty sure thats a Gen1 Nomadic Rack (only thing they changed was the side loops and made it compatible with the RotoPax) and you can see the "NR" cutout in the center of the rack in your second picture. Nice setup - I like the way it came to together. What front tire are you riding?
I've thought about filling in one side of the exhaust pipe and turning one of the silencers into a tool carrier.
I like the idea that some have done turning the old silencer into spare gas storage. This is what I did to mine, cheap and easy. My tire change stuff is mainly what is in there, with some other misc tools .
