Does anyone know offhand the torque specs for the rear linkage and top and bottom shock mounts on the '08-'09's? I think the shock mounts might be 38 lbs. but not too sure. Thanks for any help fellas.

I often am not sure which specs to use, so I confirm the wording/description by cross checking the specified bolt size for the spec.

My 2006 TE250 has 38.6 ft.lbs listed for the 10 x 1.25 bolts "rear shock absorber to frame fastening pivot" and "rocker arm to frame fastening pivot"... so if the bottom bolt size is the same as the top I'd assume 38 would be the number to use.

    Thanks Coffee.

Yep, that's what I took from the wording too. The bolts that hold the linkage on are M12's I believe so I'm wondering if they are about 50-60 pounds. So top and bottom shock is 38.6 lbs. How about the tri-link and dogbone to frame? That's the one I couldn't get from the manual.:excuseme:

    dunno...

It's a bit hard to tell from the book, I just use 30-35 ft.lbs on M10s and 50-55 ft.lbs on M12s. I'd rather have bolts loosen that break them.

I suppose how the bike is used might depend on how important the exact specs are e.g Baja/Dakar vs trail riding.

I like to get suspension components just right. It's the only thing I bust the torque wrench out for.

From my workshop manual, the bolts which go through the top and bottom of the shock itself definitely are both 38.6 ft-lb as there are photos with these specifically identified by numbers.

It's much less clear on the other bolts through the linkage rocking lever and tie rod. There's a very nice exploded picture of the whole linkage with a "Tightening Torques" box next to it, the only problem is that the box refers to items 3, 4, 5 and 6 but there are only 1 and 2 in the picture - everything else uses letters A, B, C etc. Well up to the usual Husky standards for manuals then!

FWIW, the figures in the box are 38.6 ft-lb for item 3 and 59 ft-lb for items 4, 5 and 6. Only the bottom shock bolt is in the picture (not the top one) and we know that's 38.6 so I'd guess that's item 3 which means 4, 5, 6 must be the other bolts in the linkage and all use 59. So that ties in with the range of 50-60 you were expecting for M12.

I would post the picture but presumably the manual is copyrighted?

From the summary of torques at the back of the manual:

Rear swing arm to rocker arm fastening nut M12x1,25: 59 ft/lb
Tie rod to rocker arm fastening nut M12x1,25: 59 ft/lb
Frame to tie rod fastening nut M12x1,25: 59 ft/lb

Rear shock absorber to frame fastening pivot M10x1: 38,6 ft/lb
Rocker arm to frame fastening pivot M10x1,25: 38,6 ft/lb

(I'd guess that last one should actually be "Rocker arm to rear shock absorber" as the rocker arm doesn't attach to the frame, assuming the rocker arm and the "rocking lever" mentioned elsewhere in the manual are actually the same thing)

Phew - if you're still listening I'm sorry that dragged on so long. :snore:

Thanks guys, I just tore the rear end down for it's 6 month re-grease, and have always been mystified trying to figure out the manual for appropriate torque values for the linkage.

Whats up with Husky shop manual tightening torque figures?
I have a hard time deciphering there terminology for location and part descriptions.
Does anyone have a cheat sheet for torque values? I'm trying to a build table now i can hang up in the garage for quick reference, maybe we can share what we have and come up with something understandable.
Shouldn't most models and years values/figures be similar?

I created this Torque Table for the 2-Stroke bikes. You can compare these values to the Husky manual for your bike. It should be similar torque values as long as the bolt size is the same (which I listed in the table as reference size).

I agree with you that the Husky manual is a complete mess when trying to figure out what bolt they are referring to. Hence, I got tired of it and created the torque table as a quick lookup.
