I took the old girl out for an organised trail ride last Sunday - the last outing before my wife gets back from the home-country. The course was open and free flowing and about 43km long and suitable for atvs as well. And no tight or difficult bits - really family oriented
There were enduro sections for the hardier riders as well as bypass sections for the family groups - children get tired and maybe their bikes don't carry enough fuel.

I finally took my camera out so here are some clips - sorry about the bad camera operator but there was some nice scenery and I had a good time. You just have to love the auto gear changes.

Can anybody suggest a source for new radiators? I have heard that the chinese ones on ebay have shoddy mounts.

I think it was organised to benefit the local kindergarten or something like that. I was rider 123 and there were more after me so the kindy is much better off now. The event was put on by a country town and was really 'laid back' - good stuff. As the beginning of the first clip shows there were plenty of parents out riding with the youngsters - both boys and girls.

I really didn't have the nerve to open the bike up totally - I am getting slower and I am really not 'into pain' that much. Also maybe my round bits just aren't as big and hairy as they used to be. And it is so much stronger now and gets up to speed just so much quicker.

I am very tempted to get my current radiators pressure tested etc just to make sure they are the cause of the overheating problem I have since having the cylinder re-bored.

It's great to ride to help a cause. That's awesome the parents get involved with their kids too it's a win/win for everyone.

I understand about going slower. It's surviving the ride as we get older. Watching the third generation(grandson 6yo) ride with my son as I did with him, it's an awesome feeling. I think racing harescrambles or vintage mx it's a race against yourself to survive.

Don't know if recent radiators can fit on your bike.
About overheating, the tip is to put a big radiator ( 4stroke or ktm) on the right
as found on a 430 ae of a cafe member (Lucky Jim).

Since the weekend I have looking in my box of spares and came across an extra long radiator that I had forgotten about. It was a project I started many years ago and never installed it. Mine doesn't have the bottom tank cut away but sits in front of the bottom mount (on a slightly forward angle) - the front guard just brushes the tin screen ever so slightly.

Today I took all my radiators in to a shop to be tested and checked - I should hear back tomorrow. It has been suggested that I actually have a hose with a slight split or hole. It is small enough that the rubber hose is self-sealing when cold and no pressure but opens under pressure when the engine is hot. Another option to check out.

    Rowan,
Thanks for posting the videos. It looks like riding in a park.

I always like to watch the Auto go.
Next time give us some shots of your Auto, us Auto guys like to see what you got!

I'm curious what you find causing the overheating. For the riding you are doing, I'm surprised your Auto would overheat with the stock radiators.

The radiator shop checked out all my radiators and found nothing wrong with the factory set. My long, custom one had a small leak which they soldered up. They pressure tested them to about 20 psi.
Yesterday I attached my compressor to the system and gave it about 20 psi and found water dripping onto the floor. Further investigation showed me the cause of coolant loss and overheating. The previous owner must have had a leak so cut 2 hoses and sleeved them to work - I never took any notice of the hoses down there before so never worried. The leak is where the internal sleeve is - it only leaked under pressure so nothing happened until the engine was up to full temperature.

Now to go shopping on ebay - it appears that all the hose kits come from one factory so they should all work ok. Can anyone recommend a supplier who actually has the hose sets in stock ready to ship? I ask because many sellers on ebay are just 'fronts' who order them in from the factory as required so it takes much longer to receive an order.

do not use the clamps these hoses come with however...they are awful..you want to reuse the original "smooth inside" norma units. i purchased a big bag of new normas, same as what came on the bike. they are well made and wont tear up the silicone.
