  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Trail Teck H2 Head light on TE 511 ... Pics

You will have to re-arrange the wire harness a bit to fit this light . When you have it fitting correct the wires will be good and secure with zip ties and compressed by the light housing . That much wires behind a headlight is grounds for disqualification of the mass centralization theory ! :)

Now I just need a front fender !

I am curious how you fit the front fender? I had problems with fit and then the single harness set was too high. I have it zip tied now after I modified a 610 dash to fit in between.

I am going to buy the TE 310 fender.. It is a job to tuck the wire harness out of the way to give room for the light housing. I removed the metal bracket that holds a fuse and flashers.... Everything has been moved up and in on the harness.

You could have simply upgraded the bulb in your stock headlight.
The headlight bracket was busted from a fall I had a few months ago and light was held in place with zip ties.. I figured cheaper to go aftermarket and gives me the opportunity to change the styling a little :)

I did some night riding 2 weeks ago. It was pretty bad as I could make my way slowly along the trail.
What bulb do you recommend? I believe the manual says for the TE 449/511 is already a halogen?

the stock bulb in the 2011 te449 is 35w twin filament halogen. has anyone fitted one of the osram or philips 65w bulbs in theirs. meant to give out more light than a hologen of equivelent w. so should be ok. not sure if the headlight loom could take it though?

I'm looking to get a couple night rides in and have managed to secure a mountain bike headlamp on the visor of my helmet...pumps out sufficient light....for mt.biking....will soon see if sufficient for enduro

what mtb light you got?

I have an old school HID Niterider...pumps out about 450 lumens...pales in comparison to the newer systems available that will output 1000 plus lumens. This light did it's job for the multiple 24 hour solo mt bike races I used to do before buying a rig that now requires twisting a throttle vs pumping the legs ;) I figure for single track it should do the job nicely. I find helmet lights are always the way to go as you shine on the area that you WANT to go also trains your gaze to also follow the more effective line of sight vs staring down a meter or so in front. You can get a helmet mount that has a strap that works nicely with the louvers of the visor of the moto helmet...The pic in this thread is actually of a Seca 700...as the name implies...700 lumens..borrowed this set of lights to enable an extra set while the other set charged throughout the night ;)

I went on a night ride in anza borrego "arroyo sin nombre" very dark new moon night. I was using the night rider 3000 light attached to my helmet visor. I was very impressed by the quality of light/ vision and the burn time. Ended up being a 6 hour ride and my light burned for the whole ride. It was very handy at stops too. i Highly recommend the night rider set up for enduro events. Btw I also came from a MTB background. Braap!!!

I went this way on the TXC and will likely do the same with the TE (ADV Monster "Model 60"), way more light for the watt draw than a 65W bulb "upgrade". This option takes ~5 minutes to fit to the bike excluding the wiring.
