Has anyone installed the Vapor on a SM630? I find the 2 second lag on the stock spedo/tach to be very annoying and looking for options.
Im currently using the Vapor in my SMR - works pretty good, i have a few bugs to sort out as it indicates full screen error when revs go above 7500 rpm at the moment.
I think the trailtech computers are very good, the best bang for the buck and well supported. WAY better than the stock POS IMHO.
What brand / model bike is that. I usually am not stumped. Frame looks kinda GG but the tiny triple clamps and conventional forks, and the color are confusing. Chinese bike? BTW if you removed the cross bar on those 7/8th bars your going to bend then REAL EZ.
Shame on you! I recently put a DB01R on my TE450 and I really like it. The only caveat it that the Koso Hall effect wheel speed sensor was too big and vulnerable to be worth fitting so I rigged some electronics to make the speedo compatible with the Husky's reed sensor (otherwise contact bounce in the reed sensor gave wildly inaccurate speed readings). No big deal as I also threw together a circuit to decode the voltage from the gear position sensor so I could have a neutral light. The Trail Tech would have been more plug and play (and would be the best bet for most people IMO), but it was just too big for my setup.
I have ran the same Endurance on my last three dirt bikes with no issues so I trust the product. The only thing I don't want to do is hack the stock wiring to get a Vapor hooked up. How much adapting would it take to get the "generic" kit hooked up?
Anyone installed a Vapor on their TE 630 and got the tach to work correctly? I put one on my bike back in May, but after trying all the suggestions in the manual I couldn't get it to read correctly for longer than a half hour. Hooked up directly to the HT coil it works perfectly for a short while, then it fluctuates wildly. Spark wire wraps don't work at all. It's been on the bike since, but it's a PITA to keep removing the tank, adjust the wire, reinstall and test. Doubly so with a Scotts damper & HDB guards installed. I've emailed tech support at Trail Tech and await a reply, but thought I'd ask here too. It's a nice display, just want it functional.
It's nice to know the issues before throwing money at one. Did you call Trailtech? Maybe a defective unit? I've only called them once for tech support and they were really helpful.
Tech support replied to my email today asking about how it's grounded. I won't have time to mess with it until the weekend, but I'll keep ya updated if it gets figured out.
Well, after spending all day yesterday and a few hours today fiddling with it, I'm about ready to give up. It refuses to give a stable and correct tach reading.
I have the 08 sm 610, replaced the stock junk computor with the trailtech vapor and love it, unfortunately the tach only registers at approx half what it should. It is hooked up via wrapping around the spark plug boot. Has any one hooked one up to a 610 with good results?
Yep, what Mike said. Try all three PPR settings. Just spent another couple hours messing with the wires. Tech support suggested disconnecting power from the bike battery. It didn't work. It looked good at idle and revving it in the garage, but as soon as it got on the street the rpms went back to being screwy. Even if it did work, I've lost the nice backlit display. ARRGH!
It didn't work. At all. Whether it was one inch or ten wraps on the plug wire, there was no rpm signal reaching the computer. Hooking it up directly to the coil had the same result. At this point I'm hoping they'll send me a replacement. On the bright side I'm a little faster at wrenching now.
