Hello, I am wondering how to wire the TrailTech X2 on a 2009 TE510. Is wire splicing required? I was of the understanding that it is plug and go, however, my bike's wiring plug is different to the light's plug. Picture of the bike plug (four-prong rectangular). I dont think it's the right plug, i have installed 2 of these . One on my wr300 and one on my smr510 and they both pluged right in.
Looks like the rectangular plug I have is for Australian models and I will have to splice in the X2 plug. Thanks.
I was disappointed to find the light shipped to me was a universal model that requires cutting and splicing. There is a husqvarna specific x2 that comes with a factory plug to match our bikes and is available on the trailtech website. I assumed that was the light motosportz was selling but I was wrong. It was not specified on the motosportz website so I guess I should have asked before buying. I had to choose between cutting the wires on the bike side of the plug(which there was not much to work with, or cut the factory plug out of the factory light(I ended up doing this). It would have been a quicker install with a factory plug on the x2. It also would have been nice to have the option to switch back quickly when I decide to sell the bike, but now that will require more cutting and splicing. Also I'd recommend skipping the x2 husqvarna decal IMHO. The graphics look pretty dated in person. I just left them in the box and went with the plain white plastic. Could have saved another 5 bucks there.
Yeah I spliced off the connector on the bike's wiring harness, which I really would have preferred avoiding. I searched around for the connector in electronics shops so that I could create an adapter, but I couldn't fine one. I also modified the decal.
Sorry, we used to ship the husky only version and more people found it was not the same as there as on their bike and then were left with no universal plug so no way to splice it on at all. The graphic is what it is and shown on the site. I did not design it.
Motosportz, I can understand your reasoning in shipping the universal light. I was just saying I wish I had known that was what I was buying. May I suggest adding a sentence to the product description on your website, stating it is a universal plug that will require splicing. That would remove the confusion when the customer opens the box and realizes they'll have to cut factory wires to install their new light. I know you didn't design the graffic. Just giving an opinion to others considering the purchase. Thanks, Steve.
Yep, I had the same issue. I just picked up a set of plugs and pins. Cut out the factory connector, installed the new connector on the factory wiring, the mate on the pigtail end of the X2 and another mate on the factory light. Now if I have to change it for some reason it's back to plug and play. Figured since I was splicing I'd get it all done at once.
I purchased the matching 3 position switch and mounted it on my handlebar. I left my stock light alone. If I sell my bike, I will plug the stock one back on and take my x2 and switch for my next bike. Ken
dibblego, I just received my light yesterday. I also have to splice mine in.. I was hoping you could give me the wiring scheme on that if you remember. I believe the bike harness has a blue, black, white and brown and the Trailtech has a yellow,red and black... Any help is much appreciated. Also how did you mount the bottom up? Did you use the plastic pins that come with the light. Thanks....
2Wheels....I can't recall my wiring as I did it a while ago but the diagram should be in your service manual. As for the mount to the fender I use a good sized patch of industrial velcro. It's worked really well and allows for a modicum of adjustment. I mounted the velcro on the bottom of the pin plate and the top of the fender. That way I did not have to drill/modify the fender on my 08 TE510.
by abosolutly no fault of moto or trailtech installing the X2 and installing the 100 watt stator was a headache. Unfortunatly husky really doesn't have options for a higher output headlight or stator. Just a quick down and dirty. I had to buy the 3 position switch from trail tech which is KTM so if your wanting plug and play buy the KTM X2 not the universal. the instruction for install are spot on with a few tweeks. I can understand motos reason for selling the universal as there are a ton of switch options. Once hooked up the X2 is very bright. getting the headlight positioned for offroad/street use (as it is not DOT, shhhh) is tricky. All in all I am very happy with the install. I have installed this very recently on my 07 TE450 so if you need help or have questions as to how I did it feel free to ask. You may find a better way to do it or how to clean mine up a little.
