So I finally had a chance to play with this new/used bike and after filling the gas tank and going for a short ride, I was surprised to see fuel was pouring out of the overflow tube leading from the carb float bowl, leaving fuel streaks on the driveway.
Thinking it was the float getting stuck, I tapped on the bowl hoping to reseat the float valve, but it just kept on flowing out. Shutting the petcock off stops the leak.
Before the ride and while it was warming up, there was no trace of a fuel drip, it must have started only after the short 8 minute ride.
What should I do, yank the carb and get into the bowl?

You'll need to take the float bowl off and check it out. Easiest to pull carb.

Same thing happened to me with a brand-new bike (Yam WR250) back in the day. I had to pull the carb on the side of the trail-turned out to be debris of some kind stuck in the float needle housing. Good luck!

I don't know... look at all the failures at 6-days. I goota believe a lot of that is from glogged injectors and such.

Ride it like Mr Jarvis and it won't get a chance to overflow!

...and while I was tapping it, all this debris came out with the gas. They (previous owner) probably filled the tank from a dirty gas jug and I'm just catching the crap now. I'm gonna start with the fuel strainer and see what could have passed thru.

Wait! There is no strainer at the fuel petcock. Where the hell is it? When did they do away with these screeny thingys? I must be getting old.

Another fuel tap tip.... You'll have to switch to reserve, sooner than you think it would be needed. This will save you a... WTF moment while riding!:oldman:

Thanks, I can see that. The tank is super slim and the pickup is way up there. The bike was delivered with reserve fuel levels. I hope I can complete my average 25 mile loop before I switch to reserve.

So, all fixed. I got to the float and everything was clean, The float valve checked out but the float level seemed high. But Why? So I made an adjustment for it to shut off when it was level with the top of the bowl. I wish I had a specification, but I did it by eye. Test ride checked out perfectly and no pissing gas.
