Looking for options on tugger straps. Highline seems to be what most sell but not sure if they will bolt up. Touratech secure to the subframe and feeds strap under the side cover... Any other options like that could just loop through the slot under seat? Part of the frame is above that slot so may be an option also.
I just bought a set of the highline straps. mounted the rear under the rear fender to the inside mounting bolts on the subframe works and fits great
We had the tugger straps front and rear. I did not like the attachment cup insert that went into the side panel rear bolt hole. The problem was there was no 'shoulder' like on the bolts to go thru the plastic and ground up against the metal with the right depth to capture the plastic but not crush it. Whenever you tightened it down you were essentially sandwiching the plastic between the two metals. Not a real positive attachment... I had my local CNC shop spin up a couple that worked great. On the left is the stocker and on the right the spun up set. Now I use a regular bolt and the shoulder is built in...Makes a positive attachment for a strap that you and other may be using to get you out and on your way; gotta love race fans! I had thought about drilling out the stocker and finding a bolt with a longer shoulder, but finding the right bolt that hit metal and captured the plastic was hard to find. I forwarded the pics to; and talked to highline, so not sure what's in their set these days.
Pahusky. I now see why you did what you did. The kit probably was the same as yours... None of the bolts or washers would work. I asked Burt at Highline about fit issues and he had forgotten about seeing your mounts. I sourced the washers and proper length bolts but too fidgety and all this stuff will be dropped and lost removing a sidepanel. Makes a nice clean install with your pieces. Front strap is very good and I have to assume most useful of the two straps. Since I have signals relocated to the rear subframe mounts that location is out. The forward mounts, to me, would put too much load on the plastics in use. I may just return the rear strap.
i made my own out of an old backpack strap folded in half and sewn together. fixing holes by heating a bolt to melt a hole where required. front is mounted to the lower triple bolts and the rear on the subframe. works really well and didnt cost a cent.
http://www.amazon.com/Hang-All-Velc...7496&sr=8-2&keywords=Nylon velcro tool hanger Remove carabiner, remove (or not) swivel, run under frame and connect on top of seat via velscro. Swivel may rub a bit but i kept mine on....too lazy to cut it with saw or cutoff wheel. Home Depot is where i actually purchased...cheap.
Thanks guys. Plain strap as you both described is more effective and cheap. A few options that way. I am going to return the rear strap to Highline. I have a ton of webbing from straps over the years. Considering using these mounting points but the TE wiring is on the left.
I did similar to bensl. For the rear I took a piece of tie down strap. Melted a hole at each end. Ran through the grab handles on the subframe and bolted together. The strap is above the side panels, no interference.
That works. Seat is 1/2 inch wider so may tweak the seat but it's flexible. I think I am going to just carry the strap under the seat. In use, loop through the handles. A square knot secures it.
I just re-installed the rear strap, as Jon did, since I removed my signals. That was what I had been trying to work around. Mounts well there using supplied screws and spool and stock and other washers. Also found the front strap always slides down the forks in use. A couple of zip ties each side tied from buckle to the mask bracket should hold straps like suspenders. You could mount above the lower clamp but if you had to pull the bike up out of a rut may damage the mask.
