Well my battery (original) on my 07 510 died last week so I decided I'd try one of the lightweight lithium batteries. My original battery weighed in at 4.6 lbs. (YAUSA YTZ 7S)

I emailed two different places E-Battonline and Turn Tech. I had read reviews on a couple of bike sites about both places products so I figured I'd email them first.

I emailed E-battonline on 8/19 and TurnTech on 8/21. TurnTech returned my email within 2 hours after I sent it and answered the couple questions I asked. E-battonline still has not replied as of this post.

I ordered from TurnTech since I had read nothing but positive posts/reviews. TurnTech products were a bit more expensive but I felt much better about ordering from them. Plus in looking at the pics on their websites the TurnTech battery looks like it was put together better, just my opinion.

TurnTech sells a 2.5 amp and a 5 amp battery, I chose the 5 amp. I was told I could get by with the smaller one but I guess I seem to always go for the big gun, hence my bike of choice:thumbsup:

I received the battery today, installed it, then fired up the bike. Jumped to life instantly!! I am no expert by any stretch but this battery turns the starter much faster then the YAUSA ever did. As you can see from the pics it is smaller then the YAUSA and weighs in at 1.9 lbs price was $159. The smaller battery sells for $99 and weighs .9 lbs.

Yes these are individuals putting together these batteries and not big companies but I'm game.

Long term will be the test, we shall see.

How do you plan on holding it in place? A few pictures of it installed would be great.

It actually fits perfectly in the battery holder, the only thing I had to do was add some quarter inch foam under it as it is does not sit as deep. Now with the 2.5 amp version there would be a bit more to making it fit.

And yes my bike is dirty:D

I have been running the 2.5 amp version for a month or so. No issues whatsoever! Bike fires right up and the battery holds a charge well. I don't even use my battery tender any more. So much lighter than the oem battery. I just used three zip ties to cinch it up against the back wall of the battery tray. It's so light, it doesn't need much to hold it in place.

A buddy of mine runs this battery in his 505 and has never had a problem and he also runs a TT HID X2 headlight off the battery.

I will be ordering one when the budget allows.

Ebatt service has always been hit or miss, I have one but it wont charge off the bike. I have to send it back to retro fit it for the self charging harness.

Our first Turn Tech failed after one ride. The negative terminal solder/braze joint broke inside the case allowing the external terminal to wiggle around freely and make intermittent contact. Thank God for the kicker as Cody would have been stranded several miles out until I figured out he was missing and went searching. I'm willing to forgive one failure based on the positive things I've read about this battery.

That said, I emailed Joe Turner and a replacement was on the way instantly, no questions asked. It arrived at lightspeed and I sent the defective one back. We'll see how this one holds up.

Here's how I installed it in the TXC 250. The fused line is for our Battery Tender. As far as performance, I have tested the cranking time at 10 seconds continuously (no gas in carb) 3 consecutive times after a full charge and the battery never blinked... just kept cranking. I was afraid to push it till it died out of concern for damage. As stated, we use a Battery Tender on ours during garage storage between rides.

If the replacement holds up under MX conditions, I'm ready to say it's a winner.

I love that new bike smell in that picture. Not too much wear on the sub frame and no dirt in the cracks... My 2.5 has been doing great and will run one from now on in all my e-start bikes.

 Yeah, I'm a-feared the "new bike smell" won't last long! We ride again this coming weekend for one more practice session before it sees its first race. Then it's all downhill from there. No more good smell and appearance!

You may want to add a vertical zipty to keep the battery from ejecting on the big jumps and destroying the air filter.

Love the plastic case, looks so much better than my ultra hd inner tube cover... :D

I have the TurnTech 2.5 in my TXC 250/300. I am impressed with it, have not needed the kick start yet.

I ran the 2.5 on my 08 TE450 for a week and then changed it out to original battery. I have the 5.0, but haven't had time test it yet. I liked the size of 2.5 but found that on cold days this fall (36F) it struggled to start the bike as well as the stock battery, it would get better as the battery warmed after several second of cranking with pauses in between.

I think most of the problem was related to low voltage to the EFI during cranking.

    Thanks Seymore,
my 04 KTM 450 does not have fuel inj. so i will run the 2.5 and if it is weak i can kickstart it and put the 2.5 in my wifes 200.

I think George was dead serious when he recommended jump starting these bikes from your car or another source. The draw down is dramatic on the battery from the initial start and if you end up stalling a lot in the field you will quickly run out of power. Jump starting saves a lot of battery for later on.

Not real convenient of course but doable.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Are they Lithium batteries?
Yes, but they are a completely different chemistry than the batteries that power laptops, cell phones, and Ipods. The chemistry is called Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP).

Just make sure you get the big one. 510's are notorious for needing larger batteries, and as shown recently, that especially holds true for the efi models.

I ran the 2.5 turntech on a '08 TE 450 for months with no problems at all. These batteries re-charge faster than a normal battery as well. The 2.5 is now in the TXC 250 with the same results.
