  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tyre Sizes TE449

A Class
Hi All just need some advice

TE 449 with SMR Rims rear Tyre is Michelin Pilot Power's 150 / 60 / ZR17, I want Pilot Road (PR3's) but do not make that size, they do make a 150 / 70 ZR17.

Would it be ok to fit that Size, is there a huge difference in height of the tyre?

Which rear rim width did you get, cuz the 5" rim is good for 150 to 160 but 4.25 would be better with a 140 to some 150s and that opens more options.

If you dont have chain rub then its most likely a 150 or smaller. Some race tires in 160 will fit with minimal rub. Thats why I put on the Pilot Pure since its a more narrow tire than 160 street tires. They say 160 but they dont all end up being the same width when installed. If youre up for it, and not worried about DOT tires, you might consider a cut slick.

Again Thanks for the time and effort posting K5PL5, I checked out Pilot Pure seems they not available in UK no more.
I am pretty sure the rims are 4.25" (I measured) Have Spoke to Tyre people who fit all my tyres, they say fit a 160 60 ZR17 to the rim I have, so this is great news as now I can fit the PR3's Best tyre for all round road use in my view (I have them on my K1300R, great on there too)

You won't get sufficient chain clearance with a 160/60 road tire. The chain will chew up the tire, I tried. Search my posts. Some 160 profile slicks fit since they are not as wide as the street 160s. 150 is the widest street tire profile the 449/511 will take with acceptable chain clearance.

10mm across the tread (that 150 and 160 number is tread size in mm)

so, approx 5mm closer to your chain

Not sure, by the sounds of it people think the 160's are too wide.

you said in you original post that they make a 150/70 in the same tyre you want, this will be about the same width as you current tyre, but the sidewall will be 15mm taller, and make the centre of the tread be between 10 and 15mm taller.

I'd be more inclined to go in that direction if i were you, but again i'm no expert and you should probably get someone else's opinion on this as well

The Garage who supplies the tyres for me, and fits them they said the recommended size was the 160's on my 4.25 rim, they spoke to someone who was suppose to be an expert, and the garage do fit a lot of tyres on motorbikes. heh, does not mean they are right though. Another point, a taller tyre would make a slight gearing effect to lower the gearing? is this correct. I would prefer it to be slightly lower geared tbh

Yes, it would slightly lower the gearing, but by bugger all. By guess it may be 100 - 500 rpm out (speed for speed)
