Here is the text from that .jpg: OFF-ROAD BIKER IN 24 HOUR RIDING CHALLENGE FOR CHARITY Steve Goddard, has like many people vowed to do his bit for charity, but after several years of postponing it, now he’s finally committed to a 2011 fund raising campaign. In Steve’s view asking for funds and assistance should involve a challenge of some description so hence the entry into a 24 off road event. Most of us have had friends or family affected by the dreaded cancer word at some time in our lives as have Steve and his partner Shirley, so Cancer Research UK are one of Steve’s chosen charities. Steve has also unfortunately seen first hand the effect that Raynauds and Scleroderma can have on a family member so RSA is the other charity that will benefit from any funds raised. Shirley has set up a just giving page www.justgiving.com/teams/touratrail whereby funds can be donated to either or both charities depending on your preference, 100% of any money donated will go to charity. As the pair have already found out, setting up a fundraising campaign is swallowing far more time than they ever thought possible. Added to this the logistics of travelling from Spain to the UK has restricted somewhat the amount of riding gear they could take, this is where an amazing group of commercial and private sponsors have stepped onboard. In such difficult times the support that has been so freely given has humbled the pair, however this has bolstered their enthusiasm to reach their target figure. If 24 hours through the natural undulations of Welsh countryside on a motorcycle wasn’t enough of a challenge at the age of 48, it looked like a 2 month lay off from riding was going to compound the effort involved. But once again never underestimate the good nature of the great British public, this is where top class riders Stan Watt accomplished Dakar rider and Wyn Hughes multiple British Enduro Champion, have offered their valuable time to give Steve some chance of regaining some bike fitness prior to the 27th & 28th of August. This year sees the 10th running of one of theUK’s hardest and longest Enduro events. The 24 hour race…the Beast! Perhaps the ultimate off-road challenge in theUK. Individuals and teams of up to 4 riders pit themselves against the Mountain, the weather, and their own physical reserves for a whole night and day. The start of the 24 hour enduro on Saturday 27th August will be aLe Mansstart with groups leaving in classes – the first wave starting at 7:00 pm. Over 500 riders and up to 5,000 spectators, team and family members and other supporters are expected to descend on the mountainside course of “Walters Arena” in the upper Neath Valley over the 2011 August BankHolidayweekend. Aside from the excellent racing, there will be a large marquee for meeting, greeting, eating, drinking plus of course briefing and the all important presentation of silverware and prize money. With stalls for food, spares, tyres and riding gear all on hand and village stores, petrol stations and pubs nearby it’s not too far from civilization either. Many well known racers have taken part over recent years, including many British champions, other notable entrants have included the Legendary Desert Racer Cyril Despres and fellow Dakar veteran Alfie Cox. More recently comedian and all-round bike nut Ross Noble has tried his hand and has indeed said he’ll be coming again this year! Charley Boorman raced in Dawn to Dusk in preparation and training for his assault on the 2006Dakar. If you would like to give a donation go to www.justgiving.com/teams/touratrail or text for free to 70070 and write TOUR63 for Cancer Research or TOUR64 for RSA and then add in your donation amount in pounds i.e. TOUR64£1.
