Not sure if this is the correct place for this post. I bought my 2008 SM510R new in February of 2009. I ordered a power up kit at the same time and still don't have it. My dealer does not seem to be able to get any OEM Husqvarna parts, not even the oil filter, in any kind of reasonable or reliable time frame. What is the deal? This is not a good way for the Manufacturer to treat their Dealers because it's your customers that suffer in the end. Even though I love my bike, I don't think I would buy another Husky unless I could be assured the parts availability/supply issues were corrected. Six weeks for a muffler is way too long when the internet is overflowing with readily available Japanese bike parts.
Power up Kits are not available in the warehouse, but all the parts to make a power up kit are. About $450 plus shipping and you can have everything but the P-up tag bracket of the P-up kit in your hands in about 10 days.
I have already bought one through another dealer, but like I said, I've been waiting for several weeks and still have nothing. Maybe I should ask for a refund and get in touch with you. Thanks.
Oil filters are to be had on the TT store HF154 I think. No need to go factory on that, just don't do the SS one you clean, paper filters are way better than those for the long run.
They should just give one of those guys the keys to the Husky warehouse and be done with it, for heaven's sake.......
Hi Exit, First, I can empathize with your frustration. Second, when you buy a Euro bike, parts delays are part of the equation but perhaps you knew that already. Order key bits in advance....identify and maintain your own benchstock. Third, premium brands don't necessarily equate to premium service. When I owned a BMW (what I thought was a premium brand), I travelled all over the US and found staggering discrepancies in how dealers did business, particularly with parts inventory, maintenance & warranty policies. While some folks might think that's a tolerable characteristic of "the motorcycling life", where I come from (values, education, work experience, etc), this is ENTIRELY unacceptable. I attribute it to a lack of good leadership in the corporations. The end result is the quality of a dealership really comes down to the general manager being a proactive type who takes extra measures to take care of the customer. That's how we all end up firing off recommendations for the same handful of dealers out there (Hall's, Taskys, Motoxotica, etc) because they're the consistent performers. I like to support the local dealer....but sometimes supporting the local dealer means pulling the manager aside and letting him know why you preferred to shop at the keyboard rather than his shop. Fourth, pardon the long lecture.
When I bought the bike I had no idea that parts availability/dealer service was gonna be so difficult. I have been riding Japanese sportbikes for many years and I guess I assumed parts/service would be similar to that. I really don't intend to come off like I'm blaming local dealers for issues beyond their control. I ordered a front sprocket from one of the "consistent performers" you mentioned and had it in a few days. My power up kit was ordered from a "consistent performer" as well. I was told 2 weeks tops. That was 7 weeks ago. I still have no idea when or if I'll be getting it. To me, this is completely unacceptable, no matter where the fault lies.
Ahhh, yeah......the initial sting. Remember it well. It's pretty disheartening for awhile and then you get used to it. That doesn't solve your problem at all but at least you know you're not alone and that others have dealt with the same frustration. If you order from a reputable dealer who's typically on the ball and the part is significantly delayed, that's just the way it is until it gets manufactured, loaded onto a truck, into and out of a warehouse, onto a boat/plane to cross the Atlantic, onto a truck, into a warehouse and onto another.......you get the picture.
The parts are available separately as of last Thursday, but not as a package/kit. Your dealer just needs to think outside of the box and have a little bit better customer service. The Power Up Kit has been on back order, but the Arrow pipe, O2 eliminator plug and exhaust plug are available in the warehouse and always have. Your dealer can obtain all of those parts minus the tail light bracket and still not be in the hole at the retail price of the power up kit.
Sadly this is the current situation for me as the local shop seems more interested in road bikes than "dirt" bikes. Thankfully with the help and support of the folks in the Husky community I've been able to readily obtain spare parts from some of the dealers mentioned above. Since your in KY then shipping should be 2day via UPS ground from Hall's in Illinois with a $10 flat shipping fee.
My local dealer is big into street bikes, too. They have street accessories and clothing....and while there may be up to 10 Huskys nestled between the the street bikes on the showroom floor, there is just about 3 feet of wall space dedicated to dirt and Husqvarna specific products; a jacket or two, a few jerseys, a sticker kit. I asked them if they had a pipe guard for my bike or if they could order one, and they told me to order one on-line. I picked one up at Malcolm Smiths dealership while I was in Riverside a while later. If I were those guys, I would be a little more well rounded and serve the dirt customers a little better. They don't seem to care or realize what business they might be missing.
Yes, that's where I bought the bike. They have been great to deal with and it should not reflect negatively on them. I have my power up kit ordered through Motoxotica. They also have failed to produce any results. It's seven weeks now and the kits are still unavailable. That tells me Husqvarna or BMW don't care enough to fix the issue. Like I said, I don't blame the local shops. It's just a crappy distribution set up. On the up side, I've got almost 1000 miles on the bike and it's the most fun I've had on a bike in a long time.
Husqvarna doesn't make the power up kits, they just assemble all the pieces into the box. There could be supplier issues for the "Kit" or transit or who know. What I do know is that all the parts are in the USA to accomplish the power up kit upgrade and they are available from Husqvarna NA's warehouse right now.
Just 18 months ago Husky parts where VERY easy to get. Then BMW took over and we have had some growing pains. Not blaming anyone. Now the parts are getting easy to get again as things get worked out. So if you are new to Husky in the last 18 months, yes it might seem like a nightmare. But really its just an extended hiccup. give it a few months more, things are getting better, and fast. That said, some local dealers are not into dirt bikes or whatever and thats just the way it is. Best to develop a relationship with Halls, GP, Tasky, Bottones, Motoxotica, Uptite, and maybe a handfull of others. For sure driving down to the local dealer wont always work. But an email to a Husky crazy shop can usually get the parts sent in a day or two. just adding perspective for the newer Husky riders. Its all good. Ive even had stuff sent from R and D in Australia (needed a new rear hub asap). Just be a bit creative, its all there and more.
My 08 SM610 with 625 miles on it blew out the rear shock several weeks ago. The dealer promises it will be fixed under warranty, but the shock is on backorder, and they don't want to rebuild it. I am about to just pay to have it done. At another shop.
