    Hey all,

Just got my 09 TE 510 back from George on Friday I had him go through the bike, install his power up kit, and tune it and let me tell you guys this bike RIPS BIG TIME.I am super happy with the results. I went for a street ride on Saturday and it was difficult keeping the front end down 1st through 5th gear the front is really lite and will come up at a blip of the throttle. I will post some pics of the bike when I get a chance.

Ditto. If it involves a muffler how loud??? I'll take a power hit over major db's any day.

Up-tite pipes are not loud, but very efficient IMO.

    Hey Gary,

About how loud would you say George's pipes are? Low 90s dbs you think. I'm about ready to take my bike into George for the power-up and am seriously considering one of his pipes. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Chris

I am no sound expert. George could give you the dbs, if I would guess, low to mid 90s. :excuseme: My Up-tite pipe he builds is on my 610, it is very quiet “purring” at cruising speed and changing gears, but if you get on it hard, she has a big cat growl, but not over bearing. :busted: IMO his pipes are very nicely constructed and easy to maintain/repack in addition, sound is nicer than the PU Arrow on my 08 TE450.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking either FMF Q4 or the Uptite pipe.:excuseme:

    USFS-measured Uptite Pipe dB's

At a ride in October 2009, USFS measured the sound of a 2007 TE450 with an Uptite pipe, using the official procedures, RPMs, measuring tape, etc. It registered 94 dB, slightly below average for all the bikes tested that day.

My stock pipe on my own 2006 TE250 with an Athena 310 kit registered 91.5 dB that same afternoon, and I think they tested it at too high an RPM which made it louder (their tables did not show the official test RPMs for the TE250 so they guessed what to use). Stock pipe has 280 hours on it without a repack or anthing. (Does the stock pipe even have packing or anything to maintain?)

Two years ago when my same bike was still a 250 and only 50 hours on the engine & pipe on the same USFS test it registered under 84 dB (the quietest bike that whole day). People called it The Sewing Machine because that's how it sounded back then.

I hope this helps. Uptite pipe was quiet enough and the frequency did not carry or sound obnoxious at all on the trail.

Thanks for the detailed info. Jumpster. Sounds like the Uptite might be a good choice for power and sound.

    !!, ??

I can't vouch for the power but the sound is great. However, I can vouch for George's work in general so one should assume the power characteristics are much better than stock.

So.....does anyone know if you are supposed to maintain the stock pipe at all -- does it have fiber packing, or just maintenance-free baffles like a car muffler. Since my sound dB increased so much, I am concerned.

I've burned holes through expensive roadracing mufflers by lack of re-packing......

There is packing in the Arrow mufflers, confirmed in both my 06 and 08 w/PU, it's good quality but doesn't last forever.
