my old skool Moose hydration pack is almost dead, looking to upgrade this season. anyone use the USWE/Leatt H3 hydration pack? love the features (detachable tool pack, waterproof phone pouch, etc) and looks but it's pricey. any feedback on their packs? specifically when worn OVER a Leatt brace/chest protector combo.
I have one and wear it over a Leatt Chest protector now. It doesn't flop around like my CB and is very nice. I run a Platypus liner, because I don't like the disposable ones.
I've been using one for a little over a year now and it's great. Love the hands free set up and it is very comfortable. Got mine from OFFROAD CHAMPOINS.
One of my riding buddies ALWAYS rides with his and he has a full Leatt setup. I love it so much as I can ride with nothing and cram all my stuff in his bag...that is the best option for me! I personally run a small tactical 1L bag in an "ammo style" container. The MOLLE-style bag works well witht he chest protector as I am a daisy and cannot have a ton of weight on my bag. Back on topic - the bag is super nice and very well constructed. I know he runs some generic bladder and not the "skins" that Leatt provides. He had a couple bust and never had that happen with a traditional bladder.
thnx again. think i will try the disposable bladders 'cause i'm lazy like that (but yes, i recycle... everything) not sure why but the straps looks so big that i wasn't sure if it would be comfortable over my other plastic gear. sounds like no. i wish someone would design (maybe i should) a bladder that has a few split channels, long and thin, so the water could ride more evenly on your back. the big bulge at the bottom + other carry-ons is annoying. i want the water up higher. anyway, appreciate the quick feedback. going to try the H3 this season
my Leatt Pro CP has true back protection (like sportbike style) so... HOT i already am i'm drilling some SwissCheese in that thing this season, but it's still the best protector i've owned with the neck brace (which i dont ride without)
I haven't bought one yet and they are a little expensive but they are guaranteed for life and made in the USA. Additionally I like supporting these guys. I bought the backpack for my son - great product goruck.com
Slightly off topic, I bought a hydrapak and really like it. Wear it over chest protector. Bladder turns inside out to clean easy. Shoulder straps not as beefy as Leatt, but it has taken a beating and held up. Their bladder is used in a lot of companies packs. I picked up a close out for 40-50$.
As long as you guys never run anything but water (I know some guys run drinks aids) you can simply toss your empty bladder in your freezer when you get home. I used to do all the cleaning drills and simply got tired of it. I do throw denture tabs in mine a few times a year and flush them - but the bladders spend 99% of their life in the freezer. Zeros issues and you will get a long life out of them without worrying about growing your own penicillin.
i'm amazed i haven't gotten sick from the Moose i've been using for the last 8 years. i think the gray/green bladder color was a good idea. cammo for the Funk freezer is a good idea.
Been using the camelbaks since before the Army authorized them. Used to do my weekly ruck marches with a civilian camelbak stuffed inside my ruck frame and empty canteens on my gear. I like the replaceable bladder on the Leatt pack since I do run accelerade and stuff like that during races. That stuff starts to smell odd and is hard to clean out real well.
i cant do anything but water, otherwise i get evil cramps. even the gels give me cramps. energy bar before, during, after is all i can handle.
Have you tried NUUN? Check in bike shops (pedal types) as they usually have single tubes. I have found these to be the single best hydration supplements at combating cramps. When my run distances get into double digits these are the only thing that allow me through without crushing cramping. If you like them, they are available on Amazon pretty cheaply.
The freezer idea is clever for stopping them from developing their own internal ecosystem (like my last one did). I would have thought freezing them might have been a tad rough on the seams and that, but its good to hear from others that they hold up well.
