I have not seen any one talking about the valve checks in a while. Curious if any one has had their valves checked in the last 6 months and if they need to be adjusted and at what miles?

I haven't done mine yet. I am right at 10,000 miles, so it is definitely on my to do list this winter. I think they are due at 6,000 miles. Someone will set me straight if I am wrong. When I saw a lot of guys doing the major tear down it takes to get to them and not having to adjust, I decided to take my chances since it was running fine. I don't advise that you do the same, but I felt comfortable with it. I haven't looked in my air box either and I am still running the stock filter set up. That should be interesting.

I got mine checked at 8,000 miles and was told they are still in good shape to check them at 13-14k miles from the bmw/husky dealer. Currently sitting at 14k so need to be done soon i am thinking.

I'm going to check mine at 15K. It starts easy so I am calling it good for now at nearl 10K.

I was going by this statement that unless it gets hard to start no need to check. The more mechanics I speak to about motorcycles the more say if you wait until a hard start in most cases there is already a problem with the heads. I just wish our bikes were like most where you can get the cover off with out taking the whole bike apart. Although then it would not be like a tr650. I could just imagine how easy it is to check the valves on the bmw bikes with the cylinders exposed on the sides.

Did my second check around 20,000 miles, still no need to adjust anything. At 25,000 now, and not a problem with anything.

My dealer has said don't worry about checking until 20,000km.

Mine had it's valves checked at 11,000km - all within spec. I was anticipaiting that I might be close to the 20,000km service by the time the 2yr warranty ran out, and getting the bike serviced by the dealer just before end of warranty to catch anything under warranty that might need doing before that was gone, but I've only don'e 5,000km since then and probably won't be doing many more between now and the warranty running out in 6 weeks, and the bike has been running so well that I don't fancy forking out another truckload of cash for the valve checks after only 5,000km, so I'm not going to bother with that. In fact I have a good mind to skip the 20,000km valve check and postpone it to 25,000 or 30,000.

I checked mine a few weeks ago whilst modifying the airbox thought it would be a good idea to check while the bike was half apart and seeing it had sucked some dust in. Have done 10,000km and they were all within spec, I am not going to check again for at least another 20k possibly even longer. I'd rather spend my weekends riding it than working on it :p

Just to add to the collective experience - I had mine checked recently for the first time and at 17k miles the valves are all still at the wide range of specs. I'll probably never check them again.

I checked mine at 600 and 6000 miles. Adjusted at 6k from about 20% above minimum spec in each valve to max tolerance. At 12k, each valve wore almost exactly 50%, no adjustment. I'll check again at 18k and likely adjust to max spec again, and then adjust every 12k after that. At the rate I'm riding, I'll see the 18k and 30k intervals in a year or two.

I switched to the pod mod at around 7k miles, so that could be important for wear.
