So as I was waiting for someone to respond on my last post, I decided to check my valves on my 08 smr'd te510.
Looks like i need some shimming.
Do most motos share shim "kits" (are the shim kits generic) or do I need a Is it cheaper to just grab a Hotcam shim kit, or do I need a Husqvarna specific kit?
It would be great if I could goto the honda dealership next door and just grab the shims I need.

    Thanks

Pretty sure the the shims are common to most of the Japanese bikes, 7.48mm diameter and you'll likely need a few shims in the 2.25 - 2.35mm range. You've already checked the gaps so you should be able to do a bit of math and calculate what shims you need to get it back into spec. If you have a good shop close by, I wouldn't bother with a full shim kit, just buy the shims you need now and odds are that if this is your fist check, they won't budge for the next 100 hrs.

    Sweet. Thanks

    7.48mm fit the 450/510?
Or do I need the 9.xxmm dia shims?

Kelly sells a shim kit ($35) that has just the shims you'll need for the Husky, 2.10-2.35.

Saves buying stuff you won't ever need....or at least that's what it says.

I thought it was the 9.48mm diameter shims. If it were me I'd order from Motosportz, or at least look at their page. Last I checked they were priced well.

    I really mean that.

Yikes, I think I was wrong on the 7.48mm, pretty sure you all are correct with the 9.48mm! Hope my bad advice didn't mess you up!

    The older 450/510 (like '04) was 7.48. Changed to 9.48 in '05 or '06.

I have a full Hot Cams set and it's nice to know I won't have to go hunting for shims, but these bikes don't need valve adjustments very often so the cheapest option is to just buy individual shims as needed. The shims are common to most (all?) Japanese MX bikes.
