I am checking the valves on my 06 510 SMR. What is the torque spec for the valve cover bolts? Does anyone know any tricks to get the valve cover not to leak like maybe some RTV sealant.

I assume that your are after the torque spec for "Cylinder Head Cover Fastening Screw"..??

Torque specifications can be found towards the back of your "Owners Manual".

Around page 250 in the ''05 manual. (Should be similar in your '06 Manual).

My manual shows the Torque Specification for the M6x1 bolts as

    8 Nm
    2.55 Kgm
    5.8 ft/lb

All of the above +/- 5%

There should be a "gasket" fitted to the cover. If this is in good condition there should be no need for any sealant...:)

    Thanks Seahorse,

The 1/4 inch torque wrench I had wouldn't go that low so I guessed, it will be fine, I had a problem with the auto decomp at first but everything was in spec and its all back together now with the new Clarke tank on!
