I am re-building the top end of my 09 wr 300. It had a Vertex piston in it stock. Have heard some good things about the Wossner pistons. Curious what others recommend??

I can vouch for the Wossner piston from a durability point of view. They are very nice forgings. The Vertex pistons are fine and I have used a couple for different applications. I don't think they are as tough as the Wossner. JMO

I have used Vertex and Wossner in my old KX250. The Vertex set up was noticeably heavier and the engine really ran better with it. I'll probably stay with Vertex in my Husky.

Don't forget to order a Wossner wrist pin bearing. The stock husky one is to wide. Dont ask me how I know.

Either of those brands will work nicely and have good life. Keep you bike serviced and you should enjoy a bunch more riding from your choice.

Mix the first tank a bit more oil and let it idle a bit before you really start to ride it

check for cooland leaks and/or extreme white smoke (could be a water leak in the head gasket)

when warm run it easy around the block after that load it up a bit more and after an half hour of running time its good to go

lug the engine dont revv it out and use it for 3 or 4 rides in the booowrraa not bwaaaaaaa sound, this beds the rings into the cylinder walls.
or is what was told to me by me dad have done this to all my bikes and not redone a top end on the same bike in an age!

+1 wossner beautiful machining on them

ohh and let it warm up for a few mins every ride too. gets the exhaust scavenging better so it rides clean from the off.

Thanks for the advice. Can't wait to get her up and runnin again. I opted for the Vertex simply because Hall's had the cylinder and had a vertex in stock and I do not want to wait any longer. Seems feelings are mixed on the piston. Should be fine with either I hope.
