Has anyone hde issues with temp sensors going bad? I had mine replaced last year and under 1000 miles since and it's out again. Fan always on and hard to start, but once going seems to run decent. $15 part is all I think it cost, but seems hoaky. Bike is an 08 with a whopping 2500 miles.
try this .......some times the temp sensor gets water in the connection remove the connection blow out with compressed air then re try if that dose not work needs new sensor .................just one of those things yea it's only $20 part i have had 2 gone
Blew it dry and it did appear to have some moisture in there. I put some dielectric grease in there as well. I unhooked the battery to clear it all. Fan still comes on instantly, but it started better, but "N" light is still on and blinking. I hate to have to take this back into the shop as it's a 5 hour trip one way. So far this is my only and fairly big gripe about this bike
i think its to the bike shop..... unless the grease is causing a short between the terminals?????????? worth a try before you go to the bike shop happy times.... H.B
I cleaned it up to no avail. I will order a new sensor before I haul it that far if that is all it is. If so I am one unlucky SOB with this part
Well I ordered a new one finally (lazy and forgetful) and it should be here real soon. $26 shipped from Halls. He looked up my last ticket and really had nothing to say. He did not think it was a common part to go bad either, but this will be #3 in 3000 miles. If it happens again I will have to take it in to see if there is an underlying reason this is happening. I will keep the one I removed and look into testing it somehow (no electrical guru at all)
That is disturbing. But by you posting your experiences it could save other people some grief (they may try a new inexpensive sensor mailed to them instead of driving many miles to a dealer). Much thanks
You might all benifit from my post >here< as well- goes into resistance values of a functioning temp sensor while comparing to Ibeat readouts- no one really commented on it- but Spose no one cares till they have the problem... Your 610/630s should have (I assume) the same sensor they use on the dual cam set ups as well... I can't imagine these are going out because some aspect of the bike is causing it- other than the extreme conditions that the bike is or is not exposed to (extreem defined by how suseptable the sensor is itself). OR there's a percentage of bad sensors floating through part distribiution. What else explain my experience with having no issues on my 09TE450 and some people going through them like sparkplugs (or worse)
yep just put the 3rd temp sensor in last week on the 450 ............why???? i think a bad batch of sensors
Sweet Even though I haven't had one go bad... it seems common enough for them to go bad... so I do have a spare sensor that I keep just in case- seems like a good idea. whos got the time...but...I should test the new one (spare) maybe it's range would suggest its one of the bad ones? probably would be in spec just not be able to sustain its ability to properly adjust to temps like they are made for... I think they just got a bad batch of sensors- something wrong in the manufactureing- least they are cheap enough- we'll use all the bad ones up in time
My guess would be they simply go 'open circuit' (infinite resistance) when they go bad. There are actually small thin wires that connect to the actual resistor inside (substrate). So if anyone has a bad temp sensor, connect an ohmmeter (dvm) and let us know.
i have the same issue with an 08 changed the sensor to a new all white one and still same problem and waited three weeks for it. as soon as i turn the key on the fan comes on and neutral flashes. but the bike starts up quick and runs well. i am thinking about puting a toggle switch on it so i can keep it off to start the bike. anyone ever figure this out
