I had a half tank of fuel/75 street miles on the clock. used a scale ot one end of the bike and a "shim" the same thickness as the scale at the other wheel, then swapped and added the two.
Subtracting for 1.6 est gallons of fuel + the stuff already taken off the bike, i ended up with a stock weight no fuel of 337lb for my TE630.

One could easily hit 310 with: LV single pipe -17lb, Shorei battery -5lb, passenger footpegs and grab loops I think easily 5lb.

Of course I will weigh it down again with rear rack, Dirt bagz standoffs, handguards, larger tank,
skidplate, and will swap the Scott damper over from my 610.

I had front tire shimmy the first ride at 60MPH and over. Second ride I checked the tire pressures. Was at 28/35, I aired down to 25/25 arbitrarily, and the shimmy was gone. Will see how it now does on grooved highway, on the earlier ride the 630 hated it whereas I do not recall any issue with the 610.

Mine (630SM) got a bad dose of shimmy that I got rid of by having the wheels balanced.

This applies to my bike, it may give ideas for your bike shimmy:
    • balance wheels
    • move up closer to the tank
    • lower tire pressure front and back
    • gain weight - the more weight on the front the less it seems to happen
    • re-do the suspension

The 610 was 308lbs or so dry. But the 630 seems to clock in about 30lbs more. Anyone know why?

The biggest part of those 30 lbs are the dual pipes.

My '03 has dual pipes and weighs 308 dry. But then it's carbed. And the pipes aren't that large (not tiny, either, though). EFI probably adds a FEW pounds, but not 30.

too bad everyone has a different way of determining the actual weight of the bike other than putting it on a calibrated scale

Bill has his son's 630 down pretty light. The biggest factor is that boat anchor exhaust.

I talked to him on the phone. I think he said he has a calibrated freight scale nearby. His son's 630 is 311 lbs full of fuel. That's after swapping out exhaust (same setup I have), battery, front end, and wheels. I'm not sure if there's more done than that.

Weighed mine last year on certified scales and posted results on this site. 346lb with a full tank. I think most of the weight gain over the 610 can be attributed to the dual exhaust. Worst of all, this weight is up high where it is most noticable. Leovince full ti cuts 17lb off this weight and seems to be the best replacement exhaust out there. Stripped the passenger pegs, grab rails and rear fender overhang off mine but am itching to get a Leovince or maybe a FMF single to reduce it further.

so taking 20 lbs of fuel (full tank) off that it would total 291lbs dry

Well, I just had my first ride on my new 630. It has dual Leo slip-ons. Everything else is still on it (pegs, etc.). My most immediate impression was that it felt lighter than the 610. Rode around for about an hour, then got home and went right back out on the 610. I guess the 630 is heavier, but it sure feels a whole lot lighter. There is a big difference in these bikes, and it's something else than weight doing it. The 610 just feels heavier and less nimble.

What are your tire pressure at on the 630? Mine were way high, makes the bike turn in quicker on the pavement. I aired mine down due to the initial shimmy I had. Of course those dual LV's dropped 10lb off the upper rear of your bike, mine still has the stock cans so that's a significant difference. Just got back from a ride on my 610 and my 610 feels lighter, but not by much. I think it will even out when the dual pipes and passenger pegs are gone. Torque is RIGHT NOW on my 610, but it IS geared lower. When my 630 drops a tooth up front it will be at least even. I get the feeling the bikes will be very similar in the end, except the 610 has more suspension travel. I am still breaking in the 650 so not WFO and of course the motor will gain power as it loosens up.

Just removed the passenger pegs and grab loops...4Lb 12 & 5/8 oz (kitchen scale)

I still have the grab bars on mine. I use them to anchor my giant loop bag, and for something to grab when I stand the bike up.

My 08 SM 610 with a full ti Leo single weighs 308 and my 11 SM 630 with the same exhaust weighs 314.

Weighed my TE630 -- 334 lbs. All stock except: twin Leo Slip-ons, handguards and bash plate. tank about 2/3 full.

My 610 (on the same scale) weighed 332 with the same bash plate, dirtbagz racks (no bags) and handguards. 2/3 full tank.

Adjust for the racks and they're maybe 5 pounds different.

I don't think these bikes are really that different in weight. The 630 sure feels lighter and more nimble. I need to get the suspension softer. I'm outta preload and it's still stiff. Going to put in a softer spring this weekend.

And, BTW...when different people use different scales, comparisons in the 2-5% range are meaningless -- the absolute weights are unreliable. The point here is the difference between the two weights -- since they were on the same scale, the difference is reliable even if the absolute figures are not.

I weighed the stock cans at 7 lbs, are you saying the LV slipons only weigh 2 lbs each? Or do they come with different heat shields? I know the right side stock heat shield weighs over a pound.

According to LV web site, 17lb weight loss with the single TI exhaust.

Right, but that also loses the crossover piping and the heat shields.

7 lbs for each can? I can see that. I hacked this off of my bike when installing the FMF pipe, and it sure felt a lot heavier than 7 lbs. Closer to 15-20 lbs.
